just what is the difference between the actual shooting experience with a springer and a gas piston ?
In my experience the difference when shooting is. most spring guns produce a buzz or twang when fired from the coil oscillations, a gas ram never dose that so you just get a solid "thwack" every time you fire. Likewise when cocking on most of my spring guns I can feel the coils rubbing during compression and get a "clink clink clink" sensation, the gas ram guns just make a smooth "hiss" during the cocking cycle.just what is the difference between the actual shooting experience with a springer and a gas piston ?

What spring guns do you have? I see what appears to be a 48 and a B3 in your profile banner. The B3 I'm not suprised you can feel the spring but the 48 I am.
That sounds about right then. My 48 is unbelievably smooth. I hated the sidelever at first but quickly grew to appreciate it. I dont have a 77 but I do have 2x 97s and yes, buzzy they were. I actually kind of liked the buzz (gone now thanks to Vortek) but the only HW that was annoyingly buzzy to my ear was my .20 HW95. I couldn't make a new guide for that gun fast enough haha. I haven't had any cocking lever on spring issues on any of them though. My Ruger Air Hawk on the other handView attachment 303189
HW 77, Diana 48, Air Venturi TR5, Gamo Swam Maxim, B3, Crossman Nitro, and a Gamo CFX with g4 trigger.
Diana 48 has the smoothest spring, surprisingly the HW has a strong buzz.
An ARH Hornet spring will fit the factory HW guide perfectly and only runs $20 fyi. You may need to sand the guide down ever so slightly but it will tap on with a rubber mallet and eliminate all buzz.I have read that a large dob of thick Molly grease will dampen the HW buzz, but I've yet to try it.
no , a small dot in between all the coils opposite sides of the spring is all that is needed i used tune in a tube . worked wellI have read that a large dob of thick Molly grease will dampen the HW buzz, but I've yet to try it.
This rammer is going strong after 34years. I shot it more the first 10 years. Not as much any more. But still love too. Never been opened up. Shooting 17 ft lb in 177A well tuned Wire Spring will out last any of the Gas Springs.
Shooting them is not much different.
I have several each BSA and Webley springers that do not twang untuned. Weihrauch could easily produce twang free guns if they wanted too.In my experience the difference when shooting is. most spring guns produce a buzz or twang when fired from the coil oscillations, a gas ram never dose that so you just get a solid "thwack" every time you fire. Weihrauchs inability to fit a proper guide baffles me. What is their reasoning behind it? Even my $99 Hatsan 95 has a snug fitting guide...I have several each BSA and Webley springers that do not twang untuned. Weihrauch could easily produce twang free guns if they wanted too.
That is exactly what I did. I was getting a buzz when firing one of my HW95s. I took the rifle apart and found the piston spring to be broken. I put ARH springs on both my HW95s because the factory spring on my other 95 was broken as well. I used a dremel to take a little material off the guides and installed the springs.
