HW/Weihrauch Springer virgin

Them HW97's are fairly mild in terms of recoil and are just plain nice to shoot. I had a steel target mounted to a stump out back in the woods, 82 yards out from my deck according to the range finder... Anyways, my HW97 would make short work of it on relatively calm days. That being said, I was comfy shooting off of a table while sitting, not standing free handed.
That’s what I’m talking about. Good cup of stout, black coffee, and good shooting. I used to be on a rifle team in high school and we use the artillery hold with our 52 D’s so I think the artillery hold is what I’ve used on rifles most of my life so I think I’ll be OK but the last springer I fired was in 1978 . i’m liking that three-way automatic tripod just looks a little bulky maybe the one way automatic walking stick because I do need a walking stick since I’ll be carrying around something that weighs as much as my 12 gauge shotgun fully loaded with extra rounds.lol got to love it.. I think I feel like a fudd…… after having some of the most elite bull pup PCPs you can carry believe it or not when they’re all dressed out they weigh about the same as this anyways. I am going to buy a tune kit and an extra spring and seal kit just to have in the shop. after about 500 to 1000 rounds then I’ll read up on tuning and do it right. I will have a 4 to 16 power Hawks scope sidewinder most likely but then I will also have my red dot for running around and hunting in the woods.

Ok , when we were younger, we were making 50 yard shots with a 760 pump BB gun. I don’t know why everybody thinks 50 yards is on the limit. You should be shooting 100 yards with any 22 pellet gun..ok 75 yards… just saying as a farmer and working on the ranch,50 yards just gets u started 50-70 yard dove shots all day ,with slingshot, heck I got a 72 yard target off of my shop that I hit regularly with a 22 stub nose pistol I don’t know why you guys think 50 yards is such a distance I do think in the woods were most of my hunting is 50 yards is a longshot and hunting rabbit quail dove pheasant grouse. Is 90% of the time done with my little Ruger 1022 and I do that all within 10-70 yards the pellet gun is sitting on my porch all winter long and shooting 50 yard targets and dicking around . Keeping the squirrels and weasels out of the chicken coop .i’ll sight it in for 30 yards with a red dot and be fine all the way out to 70 a little Kentucky windage and a little guessing which is all part of the fun and games of long pellet shooting I will have a blast , I just need to be minute of squirrel head or rabbit head for the next four months of winter then I’ll settle down and do some pellet picking .when time comes next summer. I will buy a fancy scope and do some cool shooting with it, but I am good. I love the gun. I’m gonna have fun thanks guys. I think I have a bug buster in there that will handle the recoil of a springer, but I know my red dot will. And I’m as good with that red dot as I am with the scope if I can see the thing I’m shooting at. With my eyesight these days I do appreciate a good scope, but the money will be in April. I’ll get a nice one then for now on I will just break the gun in with fun ,Summer. It’ll be time for a tuneup kit. thanks for all of your guises help reading. All of these posts really does help a lot..lol I really sound like a shooting snob. Don’t get me wrong. My shooting sucks. I couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn at 50 yards. That’s why I need the best gun I can that way I can’t blame it on the gun and I have to get better..
now ,I know shooting these are a challenge but I’m willing to accept that challenge because I’m getting older and it’s time to be sitting on the porch and just doing a little bit of nothing and I really enjoy so 50 yards out to 72 yard range I could throw my slingshot at 70 yards and hit it so I’m gonna have a good time but for real my shooting sucks I had to buy stub noses cause I can’t make a good pistol shots anymore I don’t have to aim with my stubby .lol ..so this is a challenge.. just farm hunting fun .. I have made 175 yard shot on a dove with the PCP airgun. shot of the lifetime two guys standing next to me about crap their pants they think I’m a god. luckiest damn shot I ever made.
Don't get me wrong you can shoot out to 100 yards, I've shot my prosport at 100 and it would group about an inch in calm conditions, maybe better if I kept trying. What I was saying, shooting at paper at 50 yards and getting pellet on pellet with a .22 cal is going take some doing. And yes 30 yards is a good range for hunting purposes, 20 yards even better, a head shot should be pretty easy at that range. Once you get the 97 and spend some time with it, set the paper target out at 50 yards and post your results here so we can see how it does. If you were getting a .177 I could recommend some pellets. but since you got a .22, the only one I know is H&N FTT 14.66 grain. So 50 yards isn't a problem, it's getting pellet on pellet on paper that isn't the norm.

lol I can’t hit s—- , i’m lucky if I get minute of squirrel or dove head even shooting a really good 22, I am a hunter, not a target shooter even though I think target shooting is much much harder in some aspects, but I know in the slingshot world people that don’t hunt do not know how to judge distance and can’t hit repetitively, different different distant shots. One shot that’s all you get maybe two on a squirrel in a tree. To me is more challenging than getting a small group on a target.. so my gun will be set up very simple and I will not be sending pictures of anything. I will do tons of reading and little talking. Just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks everybody. Thank you for your help.

I didn't mean that (send pics) in a derogatory way..lol. I was just interested in seeing what your
.22 97k would do at 50 yards. Welcome to the forum brother, we're all here to have a good time, and learn from one another.
I've been shooting my 97K since 2007, and if I can help you with anything, I'd be happy to oblige. I don't hunt anymore, mainly target shoot,
so that's what I go by when judging accuracy.

The only thing that's likely to make you question your decision is loading the pellets. The first hundred or so times that you do it with an underlever you'll find yourself fumbling with them, dropping them and generally just hating the process. Just stick with it though and pretty soon it will become second nature.

@Beanflippinclint - Welcome to AGn and HNGD! Excellent choice for your first springer! I suggest trying the .22 H&N Field Target Trophies 553 or 554 head size pellets. They fit nice and tight in the breech. German rifle, German Pellets. I have always had great accuracy with these pellets. Buy them in bulk, you will need them. Pyramid or Airgun Depot (same company, go figure) has decent prices and fast shipping. They work well for target shooting, plinking or pesting.

What kind of optics are you going to use? I am a Hawke scope fanboi. They have nice glass, nice reticles and an awesome lifetime warranty. Athlon scopes are another good choice, the reticle is a little thicker and easier on the eyes. Youtube has tons of videos on scopes. Check out "Cyclops" on youtube, he is an awesome scope reviewer and knows his scopes.

Stock screws are your accuracy enemies until you blue loctite them in place. Have a good set of screw drivers available. The rear trigger screw will come loose and there goes your accuracy, wtf? Yep, anytime accuracy goes to hell, check the stock screws.

These are a heckin' nice screw driver set with excellent bits. This kit has everything needed to keep your stock screws tight. Nice piece of kit.

Use a piece of soft cloth like a cotton handkerchief to provide some slip on the bag and let the rifle do it's thing. These bags are great and made in the Great State of Pennsylvania.

I suggest shooting a few tins out of your rifle and get used to it. They are great rifles and very fun to shoot. I suggest shooting soup cans, they are much more fun than paper when strung up on para cord or wire.

There are tons of vides on tuning Weihrauch rifles and many members here enjoy working on them. Watch a few videos and go from there.

Most of all, have fun with your new rifle. I started with an HW77 and now I have a "few more" springers than I had planned on. They are like potato chips, you cannot eat just one!

lol I don’t think there’s anything that anybody can do to me in a derogatory way ,or hurt my feelings I am a free speech absolutist I believe in all speech should be free. I do hate it when people tell me I don’t know how to spell and do right punctuation and I try to become my English teacher. I usually get all pissy and tell ugly things but other than that, I don’t, live in an area where there is no Wi-Fi so I only have cell service and send pictures and videos takes hours sometimes so I usually just don’t. I do slingshots a lot and have a lot of pictures and lots of things and it takes a long time I found it easier just to go out and shoot.

Optics I believe I will try to get a hawk if I can afford one, but I like the bug buster compact. I saved my mtc viper connect “damm nice scope” But they say that they’re not springer rated .and it on my quiet 22…. I really do like a red dot for fieldwork but the bug Buster should be enough until I get into any kind of competition then I’ll get a 16 power hawk probably.. I got spoiled with the airgun scopes, I love my MTC connect.
