Ahh, got it. Just had to press a bit harder on a locking pin. Not much to it, really easy to work on.
Nice all-metal simulator for the real thing .... same controls, similar weight, blowback action, etc.
Not going to win any accuracy awards (it's a BB gun, after all), but I don't think that's the primary motivation here.
Pulled it all apart and greased/oiled the hell out of it and now the action is smooth as glass. Great fun.
For a tinkerer, this thing is a gift. There are numerous straightforward ways to tighten up the action and accuracy if desired.
But for now, it's plinking time
