Squirrel Activity

Well the squirrels have finally decided to hide their nuts (acorns). I was able to "harvest" 2 today about an hour and a half apart. Both headshots although the 2nd turned to the side and I have not moved him. Neither moved after the shots except the familiar nerve twitching. Wolverine R 177 using JSB 10.34 pellets running at 18FPE with a Huggett Sniper moderator. The first was taken at about 22 yards the second at 19. I have a Maven RS.1 2.5-15x44 scope that I can't say enough about. The gun is just dead on at and past 50 yards and needless to say closer.

Thanks everyone. I use the Wolverine for HFT, but I must say it gets way more use with just the "H" in HFT! I also use NSA .178 12.5gr slugs and the gun really likes them, but they are really overkill for the back yard. I get passthroughs on those short shots as it is. Fortunately I have a downward angle from my covered porch to the yard so my backstop is the dirt! I also slap a Pard NV007s on it and take this one night ratting and it is a killer!

Sighted at 25 even at 19 POI is lower than POA?
All air rifles do this - this is referred to as your trajectory apex. at 10 yards you may be 2” or more below point of aim with your scope zeroed at a point 25 yards away; that’s why we use apps like ChairGun, StrelokPro pro and create dope charts by shooting yard by yard to verify your dope. Poa is point of aim and I have the yardage marked at the top of the target. The target was moved 1 yard at a time from 10 yards to my zero or top of apex at 20 -24 yards- shot remains flat for 15 yards or at 35 yards before the pellet begins its decent- study this picture, each block is 1”, notice the heaviest pellet trajectory. This simply demonstrates your guns trajectory apex with a particular pellet. Results may vary depending on how high or low you mount your scope.
