Squirrel Hunting Preparation

Hi All;

I just put together a video on my preparations for the upcoming squirrel season. It is not a hunting video per se, but rather the steps I go through deciding where to hunt, making sure my rifle is ready, and pulling together adjunct gear. Everybody has there own process, and I'm not saying this is the best, but it is what has worked for me over the years. I think for airgunners, squirrels represent one of the best quarry available to us. I know I get carried away, but this year I'll hunt for multiple species and color phases in several states .... doing my own grand slam hunt! Stop by for a look.

Thanks for posting. I just watched it. Squirrel hunting is my favorite, after many years of pursuing the Whitetail in several states with both firearm & bow I no longer use a firearm or bow to hunt with. Squirrel hunting with a PCP rifle for the last decade has been very satisfying for me. I have thought about traveling to pursue the interest but so far have only hunted in my state. I may travel a hundred miles, usually stay in a cabin. I like to hunt for a few days in a row, sometimes as much as a week. I mostly hunt National Forest. Just getting out in the remote forest & enjoying nature is a reward in itself. Our season comes in this Saturday, but still a little hot here to pursue them. I am looking forward to viewing some of your hunts. I have followed your writing and videos for several years now. Good Luck and be safe.

Thanks for the great video!

I just picked up my hunting permit today, and was able to get two squirrels this morning.

I would love to be able to hunt them at my local golf course. They have some of the meatiest squirrels I have ever seen. They are pretty unafraid of people playing golf also, so you can just dress like you are out to play a round for "camouflage ".

Sorry I'm just getting to this. Almost any moderately accurate and powerful PCP will do the job well enough, but if I was to pick the 5 I like a lot in the squirrel woods:

- FX Wildcat .25: Exceedingly accurate and great power. Compact, ergonomic, I shoot this particularly well offhand

- FX Dreamline Tactical .25: Accurate, powerful, light weight, fast action

- Daystate Huntsman Classic .22: The classiest and best looking airgun around IMO, good accuracy and moderately powerful.... just happy carrying this rifle

- Brocock Compatto .22: Accurate, powerful, compact, ergonomic best of a carbine and a bullpup... great rifle in dense woods.

- Ataman M-2 Carbine .25: Fold it up and go, accurate and powerful, very easy gun to stow in back pack, bike, or kayak.

As long as the gun performs well, probably my favorite is the one I have in my hands when there's a big squirrel in front of me!
