Squirrel knife!

I know we’re on an airgun forum, but I’d be willing to bet there’s as many or more squirrel hunters on airgun forums than anywhere else. May be an actual squirrel hunting forum out there. Anyway I fancy myself as a knife lover, along with airguns and powder burners.

So what’s your go to squirrel knife? I grew up using whatever was in my pocket. I then went to my dads Case Trapper around 13-14 which was pretty good, used it as the dedicated squirrel knife until I was grown. I’m now using my Knives of Alaska Cub Bear. It’s a caping knife, so it’s for fine detail. I enjoy the little knife very much, seems like it starts cutting before the blade makes contact.

Happy Hunting,

I’ve used them and know they perform better than my fixed blade knives. They take all the fun, known as work to most folks, out of having a knife for me. I enjoy sharpening, I’ve been doing it for twenty years now and I’m finally getting decent at the art, so I can’t give that up. New knives are more fun than buying more replacement blades! I agree the replaceable blade knives are the $!@? they have no sole though!

Good thread! For years I just used what ever I had in my pocket usually a KaBar folder forget the model number, it was my everyday carry for many years and now the main blade is getting wobbly so it has been retired. Now I carry a Boker mostly and it's OK, I like the idea of a small fixed blade dedicated squirrel cleaning blade. I did once buy a Svord small knife with a trailing point but just never could get comfortable with the trailing point. I have looked at several "Bird and Trout" blades but nothing has tripped my trigger, or should say credit card. I like the looks of the Alaska Bear Club and will have to check that one out.

Just by chance has anyone looked at You-Tube for videos about squirrel skinning? Good Grief some of those guys use some really big knives! I never have given a thought about using such a large knife but I guess they will work at least they do on the videos.

Another knife lover!

That titan is a beautiful knife, looks slicey too.

Opinels seem like they would be very good for squirrels. Some guys swear by them. I should really pick one up, no more expensive than they are.

I have 8 Moraknivs. One for each of my three boys, my wife and myself plus three extras. Great little knives, very easy to get scary sharp.

Depends on what I have in my pocket.

Though did grab a new Half Face blade a few months ago for deer. Lovely knife and very nice to use .

I listened to someone who worked at Half Face Blades on a podcast. I imagine it was the owner, but it was a while back. They seem to be awesome knives, he was a cool guy to listen to also.

Yes I've watched a few. Don’t really understand some of their knife choices. It’s crazy how many different ways guys have come up with to clean a squirrel. I’ve been trying the tail method with poor results, hopefully get it down one of these days.

Just a suggestion. I don't know if you guys do it this way already but when I'm in the field I always skin and clean out the squirrels right after I shoot them rather than later after they've stiffened up.

It's better for the meat and less work for me when I get home.
