Squirrel season 2023

The Sniper is living up to it's name!
#3 - I hit him at about 35yds and knocked him out of the crook of a tree.
One more and we'll have squirrel pot pie.

#4 was caught trespassing in the backyard. Luckily I left the Notos ready to go by the back window.
First shot was going for the boiler room but it ran as I pulled the trigger and I gut shot it. :(
And then it ran some more...so I headed out to find it and put it out of it's misery.
Luckily, my GSD was tracking it outside the fence for me. In other words, he was high pitched barking, losing his mind, but otherwise pointing out it's location from behind the fence. He's a little high strung when he thinks a squirrel snack is imminent.;)
With his help I caught up to it hiding in the hollow base of a tree. A mercy shot to the noggin ended that hunt gone wrong.
This squirrel is missing the last third of its tail.

It only gets easier as the season progresses.
The leaves fall and all of a sudden you can see squirrel everywhere!
They're burying nuts at a fevered pace.
And the males are about to start growing their balls for mating season.
It was the nut burying that got this big fella. He spent a little too long in the grass trying to find the right spot for his acorn.
A .22cal 14.3gr CPHP out of the Sniper XR ruined his day.
