They are literally trying to file their teeth down. Their teeth are constantly growing so they can grow too long then they starve to death.

FWIW here in Ventura county I rarely see grey squirrel. I think they have been displaced and out-competed by the invasive red fox squirrel, which is as successful as it is obnoxious.

Headed out tomorrow to shoot some squirrels out of a buddy's mom's chicken pin. We tried his property a few years back and came up empty, may have been because it was hot. Hoping they are more active this time. Just sitting on the deck with a tripod. Maiden voyage for the .22 Dreamtac Compact.

Got 3 this morning. Had about 10 squirrels running between 2 trees fighting and barking. These 3 were all males, so I guess the fall brood is looking for territory.

Yes it did. I was out rebuilding a bigger/better backstop and noticed all the action. It was hard to get them to stay put for a shot. I could've hit bag limit in my yard today if they'd have cooperated.
