My usual method is to wait them out until I get a period of an hour with no movement, then I pack up. I don't pick up the bodies until it is clearly bothering them, otherwise leave well alone and stay hidden. Song birds nick the hair from the tails for nesting material.
I get wheat from the Estate. It is free, but I have to pay for the peanuts which I only use when I know squirrels are using bird feeding stations.
