SSP 10 meter rifle… is the grass really greener?

Thank you everyone for your tips and opinions. I think for now the 300 S will probably serve me well. I made some form changes and put the rifle down on a bag and a barstool to cock and load. The weight actually isn’t bad when doing it this way. I don’t shoot for score just shoot 10 to a target and try to keep them in the black. Most of the time I can do that. Here’s the last target of the day, don’t laugh!! And my improvised rifle stand. I’m enjoying it anyway and I guess that’s what counts.

That is a good looking rifle, it certainly did not spend its life as a club mule.

Thank you. I wonder if it was a club rifle. It has this mark on the fore end. Maybe that stands for very good? It shot like a champion when I got it but not for long. It had the old white seals. It’s a little beat up underneath probably from being put on a stand. I’ve considered refinishing the stock and I should have when it was out for a rebuild.

I think someone would need to be a very high level shooter to see any difference at all in offhand between the 300 and 600 series.

Firing cycle wise pertaining to how these feel is another story, some people could care less, and some prefer the more refined feel of the 600 series, like I do. I don't want a bunch of guns and tend to sell one to upgrade to another so the 300S is someone else's now.

I took the front weight off my 601 and like it much better for offhand but if I were younger or stronger I'da probably left it on.

Yeah, but if I wanted to actually get serious about 10 meter shooting I'd buy a Olympic match pcp for the same reasons Mike N suggested. That's not happening so I'm staying with my 601.

bar stool seem to work very well ! nice target , with diopter 's .

I used to be big into 10m rifles. The 300 is my all time favorite. At one time i had the oldest 150 known to exist, one 300 and no less than six 300 jr rifles. I shot them thousands of rounds before moving on to pcps. I also had evety version of 600 ever made and i much prefer the 300 in any form. If i were you id go pcp 10m if possible. Something like the Crosman Challenger 2021 would be a great choice. Also the 300 jr is easier to handle with stock spacers added to make it adult friendly.

The 300 is way easier to cock. I think it looks better & is more fun.
The 602 is heavier, louder, better anatomical stock.
Both are lefty but the 300 is lefty stock righty cocking lever & 602 is lefty/lefty

I never saw the point of a low power 10m PCP. A 28-32ft-lb .177 with 13.43-16 grain yeah.
They are lighter.
Both have the rail for a bipod though I just use bags.

The 602 is a pita to scope. Older picture. I have a 1.5-4 Hakko on it now but I want to move that & get a good 1-6 or 1-8 on. However I’m in need of a short gate & probably a cantilever mount.
The 300 works well with the 3-9 bug buster. I’d like a finer reticle but meh.
If I could try a magnified hybrid diopter I might love one but I’m not dropping $600-$800 just to find out I don’t & be stuck with it.
Maybe some good supply store can put a hold on for me and send to look through without mounting.
