We Try This Weekly....................

As you know we been kicking around a 10 meter 40 shot shooting competition. We have included a standard free target which can be downloaded and printed from here. 2 Pages equals 40 shots. The page here. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1VQ708A7lIJpmhT8mhj4WdJMXkLZKP6sCThe rules.
1. 10 meters away or 33 feet.
2. .177 caliber only, any choices of pellets and power of gun. Any choice of scope and optics as well.
3. Hand held only no jackets or weird shirts, No bench rest.
4. Scoring is each target gets 0 to 10 Points.
5. if you are inside the ring and hit the tiny 10 . that is 10 points.
6. If you break the line or the ring your score is of the next HIGHEST number. Thus if you are half in on the 10 ring and half out you score it a 10. same goes for 8 to 9. The Due Date for the entries is by January 1st. We will shoot again for next month as well. Please post your scores with 2 images of what you shot and the total score. This is an honor system so no back an forth on scoring we all agreed this is a low key event. If you have any questions feel free to ask ?
so far we have 5 people interested in doing this. The more the better. I should have my scoring done in the next few days. Jay

I guess I will post here, now, since the other thread deadline is almost over.
This is a tough target because of the 20 per page. As a suggestion, you could count touching the dot in the center as an X. That would resolve any ties, and it doesn't require a different target. Good practice!
197 + 197 = 396 total
Mike
Mike,
Can you tell me what kind of paper you use to print the targets? Good practice and even better shooting!

Its just plain paper. Shooting wadcutters makes the hole nice and clean....however, they are not very accurate out of my gun (even at 10m) by comparison to the JSB Exact domes I shoot for FT. The accuracy is OK for this type of target offhand....but nowhere close to accurate enough for the same target shot sitting and outward scored. Ill just stick with the JSB 8.44's from here forward.

PS....the score total was wrong that is posted at the top...should be 394. Its listed as 397. I even added it wrong originally as a 396...lol. I'll change my mistake.

I have 500 or so of the NRA AR 5/10 targets used for 10m. They are a heavy cardstock, and make a better hole with the domes. I think I will bring some home and print this target on the backs of them.

If we used the AR 5/10 target for this match...we could score them with plugs very easily, then it would not matter what the hole actually looked like. It would also allow guys that shoot diopters to join in. I think it will be about the same or less money to purchase the AR 5/10s as it is to print targets at home in the long run. I think they are 9.00 per hundred to purchase. I know I have found that to be the case with just a regular inkjet printer. Guys could still print them if they wanted to...but the option would be there to buy them pre-printed. The target is much more finely ringed as well.

If the guys running this want to do that...I will make a pile of plugs that I will give to anyone shooting these matches. Its good to learn how to plug score a target, anyway.

Mike

Thomas all good thoughts. I will be shooting a official 10 meter target this week if my airforce edge gets in. So if you have a printable target to shoot and can share that with us online that be great. I will be shooting with a Diopter sight. I think this puts me at a little disadvantage but who cares it is all just shooting. The way I see it we could have 2 targets and offical 10 meter and this current target if people prefer that. They are close to the same size, yes the white target is bigger but I want as many people to shoot as possible. So if you could post those target as well that be great.

Any other input is welcome.

Hi Jay,

I shoot about 4 points less on average using diopters on the AR 5/10 target. Its a disadvantage for me, but not terrible

There are 10m AR 5/10 copies on the GTA forum. I believe they have a black center target that would be used for peep sights, and another target that omits some of the black portion so its easier on the ink for the guys that are shooting with scopes. I don't imagine they would be bothered if it was used here...but cant say for sure.

In this thread, http://www.airgunnation.com/topic/seated-position/, member Chachoze looks to have created his own. It has 20 bulls per page which would be more difficult than 10 per page...considering you can shoot as many as you want before submitting.

Again, I would be willing to machine free scoring plugs to distribute to the shooters.

Mike

Tried the wadcutters... Just a tad on the light side in a gun set up to 10.3 JSB's at 19+ FPE so that didn't last long...
Struggled a little with the scoring. The lupe showed a better result than I got by eye and I think if I had plugged the cards it would have been even better. Not worried about it or challenging anything, really :). I stink offhand anyway.

Mutant Shorty converted to .177
10.3gr JSB's at 19.5 FPE
180+177 = 357 ugh...
Aztec on 16x

Jay...I would love to shoot a 10m target. Heck, I'd shoot both. I'll be using the shorty for FT in 2018 (feel like being a bit of a rebel) so need the off hand practice anyway but my P70jr is getting jealous sitting right there while I shoot offhand with something else. Might even have a target, I'll look.
edit... I missed Mike's post, those are what I was going to look for...

"thomasair"Again, I would be willing to machine free scoring plugs to distribute to the shooters.
Mike

Is anyone else interested? Having plugs will make scoring much more accurate, and he's offering them for free/shipping? to anyone using the target. I'll jump on that for the next round.

Scoring Plugs? I assume you guys are referring to these -> http://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/Gary_OTMMar2008.pdf
Up until now I had no idea they even existed, that link came up in a google search.

I guess the answer to whether or not they should be used comes down to how serious you want this to get... I was under the impression this was intended to be just some casual shooting or in other words just another fun reason to do some shooting this winter and to show what you can do.

If someone decides they want to use the 20 bull nra air rifle target I can reconfigure it to use more or less black rings or alternating rings or what have you.

quitoona, thanks for participating, Yes, honest try. There are a ton of different skill sets out there. I am new to this so my score is low to the big shooters. What I am going to do is try to keep a running average. Basically how we use to do in 5 Spot bow target shooting. So as you progress you get better and your average goes up. So at the end of a few weeks if you shoot better and the guys with the high averages dont shoot better than the people will be noted as biggest gainers of improvement which is exciting.

I will mark your score Thanks again.
