I was at a full service gas station in the city last summer. They make popcorn for their customers, and they throw the day old stuff out in the parking lot.
There must have been 30 starlings out their eating that popcorn. (Can't shoot DAMN!) So I went and bought popcorn and put piles of it out. Never saw one starling come to it.
My favorite way to draw them in is after a good snow is to clear out a patch to the ground and sit a pan of dog food out, they can't resist it. With a quiet gun you can shoot several each time they come in and lining up a few for multiple kills works great if you can shoot from near ground level.
Every spring starlings come in and fill a magnolia tree in my back yard. They’re here for about a month and poop on everything. I shoot what I can but the thick cover on the tree and the fact that they don’t roost until right at dark makes it difficult. This year I will try throwing out some cheese balls to get them onto the ground early in the mornings.
My favorite rat bait, I run them thru a blender add bacon fat to the rat poison then dust with the cheeseballs. You can't get buy with the regular rat pellets three days in a row. The only thing better is protein peanut powder and butter, but it's way too costly..
