Steyr Hunting 5 Auto

Got up about 4:30 this morning to beat the sun so I could throw a few down range. Was a balmy 90 degrees by 5am
Started shooting at 25 yards and after about 4 magazines I thought my eyes hadn't focused yet or I grab my shotgun instead of my Steyr!
Head to the workbench, slid the scope rail off, pulled the barrel out, did a cleaning with about 10 patches, reset the barrel, slid the scope rail back on and shazam , elevation stayed the same, wind age only off about 3 clicks, only took 5 shots to relead the barrel, proceeded to shoot two 5 shot groups 1 hole, did the same at 50 yards. 6am suns up, to hot, went to work a happy camper.

I live in Ahwatukee so I know exactly what you are going through. The insane heat is making it near impossible to shoot my airguns which is killing me. I have found the best time to shoot is about an hour before sunset or around 5:45 pm. It is the only time when I can find enough shade to hide behind so I can shoot without risk of having a heat stroke. Still hot as hell and uncomfortable but better than nothing.

I have a HW LDC on it, so OAL is 48", the gun is 38" I did light my range so I can shoot at night

I've run about 1000 pellets through mine, like a laser beam until this morning, blamed it on wind gusts but guess I'll have to clean the barrel
what do you use to clean?chemical and brush? Or just string line and patches? And you remove the barrel from the action?

Get yourself a Crownsaver from Mac1 airguns(inserts from the muzzle) to pull patches through from the breach and some Kroil. You will have our barrel clean in no time then it's back to shooting.

You can use a straw to get past the baffle and such in your ldc, it makes life easier.

I rarely clean my barrels but I'm throwing so much lead through the semi - auto that I do believe a cleaning is in order.

i wonder if removing the barrel so many times might cause it's own issues?

I use a product from patchworm.com, they sell the whole kit pretty cheap. Fishing line pull through, patches and the cleaner is great, called Prolix, works on all my guns including powder burners which I rairly shoot anymore. There is a video on how to remove and set the barrel on the Steyr site and YouTube . Pretty easy, only two screws. I removed mine about a dozen times. When I got it, it would not cycle the magazine correctly. So I had to fuss with the setting. My barrel was really dirty, as you said, you go threw 5 times as many pellets. But 5 times the fun

i shoot my powder burners less and less -- one reason being the constant disassembly after each shoot for cleaning---
but with my Air rifles I rarely need to clean the barrel- almost never see a degradation in accuracy --
I only shoot JSBs in the pellet rifles- but will need a routine for the semi auto- easy to go through thousands of pellets -LOL- truly a fun gun!
is there any special placement needed for the barrel - or does it simply bottom seat? Also a index notch or rotational placement?
And then tighten the set screws?
ive watched the videos on the Steyr LG 110 barrel install but don't believe the breech block is the same in the semi auto?

The barrel only goes in one way. Two indentations for the two set screws, the only adjustment is making sure the magazine is set right. Here is the video.

As soon as I notice they are not shooting up to par, I clean em. If they are shooting good, I leave things alone. If I am going to shoot a match, I'll clean them before hand. Some of mine, I have to put about 20 shots through them after cleaning before they come around, not the Steyr.

Brilliant range there!!

Cleaning the barrel of the Steyr H5A could be quite tricky.. Not a fan of taking the barrel out, so I used to use cleaning pellets for mine.. They are kinda expensive so moved to a solution i picked up off one of Ted's videos..

Made a pull through using a nylon grass cutter line . I bend the sharp end of the line into an L after piercing it through a patch and pass it through the magazine slot, into the breech. At first its a little fiddly but once you get the hang of it, its very easy and really quick to clean. I have noticed this barrel does require regular cleaning tho. Maybe cus you end up shooting a lot more pellets. Its such and addictive rifle..

what range are the groups above. if its shot at 5o yards those are hughe groups for 50 yards??
