Stiffening the barrel on impact mk2

Been seeing people making spacers and putting them over the barrel between the shroud and frame and tightening the shroud how does this stiffen the barrel up does it put it under tension, does it actually help , could I use peek to make the spacer If it helps or not

It does help a little with the harmonic but mostly it’s for preventing POI shift since the barrel is only secured with 1 scrub screw. It can be made from anything as long as it fit and perfectly flat, can easily be 3D printed but carbon spacer is structurally strongest/doesn’t compress or deform with basically zero thermal expansion.

I can make it flat on the lathe I suppose a Carbon sleeve glued to inner liner would help to were can I find those and what diameter do I need for a 22 cal 500 mm

There are several ways to put the barrel under tension. The easiest is to make a bushing slightly longer than the distance between your shroud and the block. Then when you tighten down your shroud it will put tension on the barrel. It's amazing how well this werqs.

Has anyone tried spacers made from peek or something else on the liner instead of orings to space the liner out inside the outer tube opinions would be great or should I just stick with a carbon fiber sleeve

Yeach jking (jimmy) made some im not sure if he's still using them. I like the CF as it kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

I buy a lot of them from the bay. I wrap most of my barrels. Several vendors there. Most are listed in mm both inside and wall thickness. the thicker the better. 

I usually order twill. It is strong and good looking!

Until this year when the new m3 came out you could get them at

Sold out I think I'll try making spacers like 4 of them and space the out evenly over the 500 mm barrel where I can
