Still on the hunt for a great .177 slug shooter! Any suggestions?

So as the title states, still looking for that 177 slug shooter. I just cancelled my FX Panthers order, figured I'd wait a while and see if any issues come up with this new platform before I reorder one. This frees up some funds for another gun! So far my 177's are a Daystate Delta Wolf 23", FX Impact M3 600mm and AGT Vixen long. My Delta Wolf is a fantastic pellet shooter and shoots Howler slugs ok but I really need to crank the reg way up to get speeds up with anything 13gr or higher. My M3 does well with Zan 13gr and no lack of power which is nice. It doesn't seem to like any of the 15gr and heavier slugs. I do have the 177 slug barrel on order but who knows when those will start shipping. My Vixen is a great gun but never intended it to be a heavy slug shooter due to its short barrel and small tank. Its my go to for pesting around the house with JSB 10gr pellets. I have narrowed my next gun to the RTI Prophet2 performance or Uragan 2 600mm. Let me know if any of you have any experience on these 2 with 15gr or heavier slugs! Which do you think would be the better slug shooter or is there another gun I may have over looked!!!

I've spent too much $$ and time screwing around with my two FX rifles with slugs. I give up. IMO, .177 rifles are really not suitable for shooting slugs. If you can find a gun with little or no choke, you might have some luck, but is it worth it?

The only un-choked barrel on a stock 177 that I know of is the JASAR Raptor. I've never tried this gun, a lot of mixed reviews and their web site doesn't have good ratings. If anyone has any experience with this platform in 177 would love to hear about it!

New hw100 600mm shoots nsa slugs extremely well. I have one of these barrels going into a nova star (crappy gun, but high-power) the hatsan, anyhow

Barrel is 1:21 twist

I just saw a Nova Star on the classifieds the other day, almost picked it up to try it out. If there's one thing Hatsans don't lack is power!

Yeah, but they lack just about everything else. Everything is crudely machined like I could guess and eyeball dimensions and angles and do a significantly better job.

There is an evanix rainstorm 177 in the classifieds says 32 fpe with knockouts. That's cooking for a 177.

I happened to had great luck with my crown with 500mm 177 barrel shooting 12.5 grain NSA.

This was .56 inch at 100 yards, could shoot at it after the third shot.

Same day, bigger group thanks to misreading the wind but still just over an inch from 2 almost 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards in the wind.

For those who thinks FX can’t shoot 177 accurately or can’t shoot 177 slugs accurately, I can say from first hand experience that is not true.

I have a FX Crown in .177
I am pleased with shooting slugs from it since I updated to a .177 superior HEAVY liner in 600 mm.
It shoots all kind of slugs way better than the .177 superior liners.
Also shoots pellets better like JSB Monsters and Beasts.

But still my Redwolf in HP .177 is hard to match at 100 m. It is just a bit more accurate over many shots.
Look also at the RTI Prophet 2 Performance that is a little accurate beast of power.
And very much easier to tune - Practically you need only to change the reg. pressure from 60 bar - shooting 30 yards 10gr pellets.
To 160 bar and shooting 20 gr. slugs at +1000 fps.

Hello @Ed24

I was ready to purchase a Raptor in .177 cal until I called and spoke with the new owner. He told me that he did not like making .177 rifles and wanted to move up into making just the larger calibers. I decided to pass because of my concern for any kind of future service.

can you get this high velocity with 20grain slugs?..accuracy?..

qball, nice shooting! My M3 shoots the ZAN 13gr pretty good but anything heavier than that groups open way up. Have had my 177 slug liner on order from SPAW for over 1 1/2 yrs. Hopefully they come in soon and will allow me to shoot 15/16gr slugs!

I have an RTI Prophet 1 .177 and, with the OEM 20" barrel, i easily get between 45 and 50 fpe.
BUUUUUUT I just installed a 24" LW polygonal unchocked barrel, slugged at about 0.175, polished and rimed. We will see as soon as Wildman's slugs will arrive. Unfortunately i can't order Griffin's slugs, they look really promising.

First and foremost try high reg pressure, by that I mean 140-150 bars. Second the 177 liner has 1:18 twist rate and 13 grain is about as long of a projectile the twist rate can stabilize sufficiently. Depending on the altitude and speed you might be able to shoot 15 grain 177 slugs ok with FX 1:18 twist rate. The 16 grain needs about 1:15 and 20 grain needs about 1:13 at sea level.

Let us know how it turns out. I am leaning towards the RTI over the AGT. Both are fantastic guns but I love to tinker and the RTI is easier to make reg adjustments.
