Stock Refinished Daystate Huntsman Revere Regulated .25

I bought a package rifle from Airguns of Arizona, I was kinda hoping that it would look like the model gun in the Daystate brochure….

No luck, but it had a little character, but the finish was quite rough and a little muddy looking. I taped the butt pad and reworked it using mineral spirits, LinSpeed oil, and a super fine white Scitchbrite pad, equivalent to 0000 steel wool. After finishing with three coats I used Williamsville Wax to seal the wood and give it a real shine. This is a show/ fun gun, I don't carry it and the slick finish is fine with me.

I like how it darkened up. Debating doing mine since the sprayed finishes don't seem to soak in and bring out the grain in the wood. Nice work.
If you start out with a penetrating oil, like some diluted Arm-R-Seal, that will bring out the characteristics of the wood. Once that dries, you can top coat that with a harder top finish. I'm old school, I use nitrocellulose lacquer over Arm-R-Seal. I spray with a gravity gun.

Thanks for the kind words. I like a shiny stock, I was not aware that others also like it. This was my first refinish, I am now on the lookout for another high quality pcp gun with a beat up stock to restore. It was not at all hard to do. I especially like applying the LinSpeed oil, it dries fast. Apply by dipping in a finger tip, then rub it all around the wood with your fingers and palm, it is very sensual, like giving your partner a back rub. The friction of your skin warms the oil and wood so it penetrates well. When dry, sand lightly with the white scotchbrite pad, wipe with mineral spirits and add another coat of LinSpeed. Oooooh Baby!!!!

Be very careful with the checkering, or you will dull the sharp points.

You're welcome! I had an older DS Regal and it had some tiger stripes in the stock but your stock looks better with what you did! I have a friend who does incredible woodwork and he recently made this jig/lure box for me for tuna fishing made from African Mahogany that matches a tackle box he made for me, I'm in awe of anyone that can bring out the best colors in wood as I have no wood working skills whatsoever....😂👍.

Thanks for the link to Lin-Speed! Never heard of that product before. Sounds a little like Tru-Oil by Birchwood Casey.
