I recently spoke to an East Texas land owner about his desire to teach his 9 year-old grandson to shoot and hunt. I suggested maybe starting with airguns and he said he’d already bought him a BB gun. I further explained some basic distinctions of modern airguns and said it might not be a bad idea to introduce his grandson to some sort of hunting course and shooting instruction. The problem is that the boy is in San Mateo county California. I’m under the impression that it’s not a place with a proliferation of child-friendly shooting sports or organizations.
Personally I don’t know anything about airgun organizations, shooting ranges, or airgun clubs in that area. The closest I’ve seen on here is the Diablo Rod & Gun Club that hosts field target matches in Concord, Ca. which is in Contra Costa County. A brief search engine search revealed that the distance between Concord and San Mateo county is about 53 miles and takes approximately 2 hours, a horrendous travel time for a seemingly short distance. I recall mentioning the venue to him to at least consider taking the boy to watch a FT match or something to gauge his interest. He said he was looking for something closer. This man is in his 80s so I can understand why he may not want to drive so long.
Any members in the San Francisco
Bay Area, more specifically San Mateo county, have any suggestions for a venue or organization that’s child friendly and closer that would seem fitting of the above situation?
