Sumatra PCPs

I changed the hammer springs on my 25 cal Sumatra to get a more consistent shot stream. After thinking about it I decided to return it to stock condition and leave it that way. I decided Sumatras are like muscle cars and built for a specific reason. Just like I wouldn't try to change a muscle car made for drag racing into a fuel efficient everyday driver, I'm not going to try to change a Sumatra into a high shot count gun. I have other guns more suited for that role. As it sits it gets about 18 shots with a decent ES (20 fps) on high power and 20-30 shots with less power. By using different pellets it can fit into the roles of 22 cal on low power with about 35 FPE, a 25 cal at 45-60 FPE or a 30 cal at 70-80+ FPE. I have a couple of 22 cal Sumatras and they are as powerful as the 25 cal but the heaviest 22 cal pellet I have found that's still accurate are the 28 gr Eujin pellets. So the 22 cal can also fit into different roles as a PCP.

The adjustable power wheel can be used to get consistent power from lighter pellets over a longer string. On my .25 I get just under 50ft lb with H&N hunter extreme starting at just bellow medium power. I move the power wheel up a notch every 2-3 shots and the curve stays fairly flat for lots of shots. I only start at the highest power if I'm hunting something that needs it or using 51g cast bullets.

It is really a pure hunter. I rarely use mine to plink except at the range where I enjoy taking the scope off to use the iron sights. My closest range is only 25 yards which isn't much of a challenge with a scope. The Sumatra carbine is the most exciting air rifle in it's price range in my opinion. It's just so much fun to play with when you're in the right mood.

I set mine up with a medium high velocity in mind and then work on Power Wheel turns to keep it there for 18-20 shots. My Career carbines are filled to 3200psi, with a clip of 6 shots, then a click up for 8 shot, then a click up for 4 more shots and then2 click 9to yellow0 for the last 4 shots.

My 22 cal carbine is getting about 965+ fps average for all shots using 21.1 gr 22 cal Kodiaks ... I'm very fine with that.

The extra 200 psi in the beginning make a big difference in shot count if you want it ?

I do the same with my Sumatra 25 cal shooting H&N barracuda's at ~965ish !
