FX Superior Heavy Liner .30 cal

Hello,

As by the header, shooting. 30cal with heavy liner. I am at a loss for what is going to make this thing even kind of behave. I've tried speed ranges from 900-960 with SEVERAL different kind of slugs, even tried the hybrids just to see. No luck there. The best I've been able to manage is 1.3 inches at 30 yards.

Any help would be greatly apprecaited!

Order ZANs .30 slug assortment box. Six different weights from 45.5 to 68 grains, with plenty of each for testing. Went thru several times with Uragan 2 and Vulcan 3, both clearly preferred 59 grain, with 54 a close second. Very quick way, IMO, to find what grain slug a tune, or setup, prefers, then experiment with similar weight offerings from different vendors. WM

If I went the route of getting the assorted box, what would you recommend to start speed wise? Should I try to tune the gun "hot" so the heavier pellets are fast and the lights are screaming.

I know that is a loaded question because of the nature of tuning. I am just getting frustrated, and I'm starting to think that I have a bad barrel

I'm not a "tuning" kind of owner, mainly go with factory settings. ZAN's assortment helped find what slug weights shot best with that tune. My slug-designed guns didn't like 4 of the six offerings in ZAN's Assortment Box, if I only had a tin of each of those poor shooters I'd be going crazy. The Assortment box helped establish a basic successful tune where barrel, gun and ammo are all happy. I could tweak from that basic tune, if needed. If terrible accuracy from all six assorted slug weights, I'd consider gun or barrel problem. I'm no fan of tunes that hammer an airgun into an early grave so recommend back off some and start there. Here's my two .30 (700mm) sluggers, designed and tuned by AGT for slug shooting. ZAN's .30 Slug Assortment box helped identify what weight slugs these factory tunes preferred. From there I shopped AVS, NSA, Wildman and Javelin for slugs in that weight range, some shooting better than others. Finding accuracy with slugs took a little effort but not frustrating nor discouraging. WM
