Hello airgunnation it is my first post but contains a serious question. I currently have an FX Wildcat in .22 love the gun with absolutely no complaints. Only issue is that living on the gulf coast comes with its fair share of wind and I feel that these .22 pellets are getting pushed around in the wind pretty badly. I shoot JSB 18 grain pellets to try and minimize the drift. The question for you all is would switching to .25 shooting JSB kings 25.39gr make a significant difference in wind drift. I know there are alot of other factors that tie in but considering selling my Wildcat and getting a FX Crown or impact for the shot count in .25. All suggestions and comments welcome!

I have Wildcat 22. shooting 18.3 or what ever.
I bought an Impact 25. just put the 700mm x barrel on it. shooting 35g mark2. (all g's are approximate)
I am querying now for comparison with the RAW and the WAR. if I were you I'd research a while and make a good decision. I know they cost more to shoot but 30 Cal is the better wind tamer.
with the money youre going to spend try to make it a one time expenditure. just trying to give good advice. go for it!!!

As Keyman said 30 cal will buck the wind best but the 25 cal does a better job more than the 22. I thank you would be happier with the Impact if you really like your WildCat. I have the WIldCat, Crown and Impact. I just prefer the Impact over any of them. It just feels better to me

If the cost of ammo isn't a factor, I'd go for a 30. And you'll need a decent supply of air too.
I have a Streamline 22 and hand pumping that with a Hill Mk4 was a bit of a chore and got old quick.
My Wildcat 25 with larger air cylinder made had pumping miserable. But since I have a tank now, filling is always the last thought when I'm on the farm.
My 25 doesn't seem to be as affected by the wind, but you still need to make accurate holds for it.
I don't have any experience with a 30.
CHUCK is ging to help me push the 34gr pellets toward 900fps so that should also help with wind.

If you’re going .25 in hopes to buck wind, I’d suggest shooting the 34 grain. The .25 RAW HM1000X polygon is an excellent choice. There are others that also shoot that pellet well; Cricket, Matador, Renegade, Wolverine & Flex to name a few. The polygon barrel may have an advantage being less intrusive on the pellets.
.30 is always an option but the jury is still out on which of these two (.25 ~ 34 gr or .30 ~ 44.75 gr) do a better job in wind. .25 is cheaper to shoot, that is a definite.

I don't know much about how Wildcat's are put together or your mechanical aptitude but that gun comes in both calibres and you "might" be able to buy all the specific .25 parts and make your gun be able to shoot both. I did this with my Royale which is also not a "calibre change" model but I can make the full change in under 10 minutes. Much cheaper than a second gun.

JSB has the .22 in 25.4 you might try those. My Crown .25 shoots the 25 and 34's pretty equal at 50 yards after that 34's period.
When I buy a new barrel kit it will be the .30.

Check out the Power Tunned.25 Crickets. Will shoot the 34grain JSBs at about 900fps. Heavier pellet, good speed, great accuracy as well.

Gulf coast huh? I'm in St. Petersburg., Have an IMPACT X .30 cal. If you want hands on or want to shoot, let me know. I chose the .30 because of being on the gulf and takedown power for the game we hunt.

FYI - plans on getting the .30 in 700mm and the .25 in the 700mm barrel kits and slug barrels as they become more available.

I am actually located in the Houston area so that would be a bit of a drive, but i really appreciate the offer skygear! What ever gun I end up deciding on I will have a .25 for bird/small game and a .30 for coons and the nutria rat we have running around in the marsh. Do you ever feel that the pressure gauges on the Impact are to exposed and prone to damage?

Just learn the wind. One of the best things about airguns is the drag stabilized pellets and leaning wind doping, tho it sounds ;like a .22rf is just what your looking for and you'll save a ton of money going that way. If you really want a firearm substitute with little to no learning curve ( but you give up almost all benefits of using air ) just grab a .308 airgun using mabe 95g slugs at 1000 or so fps. Very little to thin k about at short range that way.

I was concerned with the gauges and would prefer them to be a little more low profile. However, thats just aesthetics. So far I haven't had any issues with them, Walking through the mangroves and woods hasn't had any effect on them. I hunt and don't necessarily baby my gear when I'm stalking dinner. MY GOAL IS A HOT MEAL.
