Taipan Taipan Mutant Short .22

Lol is anyone surprised about this? In my search for a .177 gun I was offered this .22 Mutant short from @Deathwizard . Looking for a 20fpe gun this just fit the bill perfectly so of course i jumped on it. I threw my 4-16x44 Arken LH4 on it. We'll see if it stays. For now I can have an Athlon 10x42 or Discovery 2-12x24 to try on it. Not sure which direction I'll go. Hopefully will get to test it out soon but having just had a son on the 18th I'm not sure just how much time I'll have. Plan is around 800fps with the 14.3gr CPHPs and also shoot the JTS 18gr wherever that'll put them. Will be a 60yd and in gun. I owned a Mutant standard years ago which is what started the Taipan addiction. Since I miss my Vet Short that I sold to my brother in law I'm happy to have a replacement for it and happy to have a Mutant where it all started many years ago. I thought I had pics but must have forgot. Will take one before I head out in the morning.

No surprise here...These Taipan's are just too great of a platform, (what ever the configuration) not to have in your arsenal. I just "converted" another member...Fishing43, to two Taipan's, a standard. 22 and a compact .25, he's all in now and I'm happy for him...Taipan Veteran air rifles are easy to recommend with complete confidence. I've been working with a compact .22, most recently aquired, along with the Mutant standard .22 I got from member Shambozzy, I have four Taipans now and each seem better than the previous ones. The Mutant eats everything but is "locked down" at 890 fps with the JSB 18's for evermore...thinking it was the cats whiskers...until I started working with the compact...this thing only has a 350mm barrel...Did serious cronying with it yday

...835 with JSB 18's and 840 with the JTS's 18's, 770 fpe with the JTS 22's and they seem to be ok too but will eat JSB18's day in and day out....I will post a couple groups I shot a few days ago, the Mutant was no surprise but this little compact is just unbelievable....the bigger group is TEN SHOTS from off my knee sitting in my easy chair at a measured 47 yards, I got a battery for my range finder so don't have to guess ranges now. The compact is a little tricker to shoot because of shorter length and lop I tend to string groups vertical but I'm getting it figured out. Wish I'd started out with these platforms in the beginning of my airgunning journey. A Mutant compact is going to be sweet I have no doupt...Looking forward to pixs and preformamce. BTW congratulations on the new "family addition" what's his name?

Thanks Russell for turning me on to the vets and they are very well machined and a solid airgun. Can’t wait to squirrel hunt with them this coming season. They both have taken several starlings and sparrows at some of my neighbors cattle lots. Now to find a 25 cal standard from somewhere.

At least with the Mutant, you wouldn't have to worry about the magazine not cycling properly if you tune the power really low like the issue you had with the Veteran.

Thanks! His name is Devon John. He's 4th generation with the middle name of John.
Congratulations on your new boy. What a great day.
Thanks! Yes always a great day having another kid.

Yup perfect for what I'm wanting! I doubt I'd have the issue with it at 20fpe on a Vet but this way I never will thankfully.

I need to find some mag holders for the Mutant. I love mine for my Vet so I have everything right there whenever I need it. Also debating if I add a Pic rail to it or not. For what this gun is I doubt I'll ever be shooting it off a tripod likely out the truck or off hand. I'll likely just leave it be. Anyways tomorrow I should have some time to test it in the morning.

PSA: AoA just added a used Mutant .22 in their used section. The picture looks like the Compact model. <$700.
Well...That one didn't last long...Checked at 7:30edt...gone...Would have gone well with my standard Mutant...there has/is some good stuff on AOA's used site lately...good place to stay off of if one is budgeting.
