Taipan Taipan Vet 2s - 700mm & 550mm Pellet and Slugs at 30 yards

There's been a lot of postings gong around about the Taipans lately so I thought I would throw in mine. The targets are 5 shot groups each of various slugs for the 700mm and both slugs and pellets for the 550mm. Both guns are about a year old so they are in the "newest group except for the new ADF versions. The targets are 30 yards away and I was on my bench with an Accu-tac bipod on the front and my sand bag on the back. 12mph wind today but I have some enclosure to take it out somewhat. No change in tune on either gun, just a full tank of air (250bar). The shot groups should be pretty steady although I may have a bit of movement on a couple, but I left them in. I did clean the barrels before the shooting. I hope this helps with some pellet slug choices based off my guns.

Here is the lane and the setup.

Great groups with both! I received my v2 550mm .22 from Dairyboy (Dillon) and it is tuned to shoot JSB 18gr @ 975fps and it likes both NSA 20.2gr .218 @ approximately 940fps and FX Hybrids @ 925-ish. My first Vet, really wonderful guns!

Pfddi, if you dont mind me asking, what kind of shot count are you getting with the 550mm? I'm interested in buying one and wondering is it worth buying the tactical over the standard tube. I've got a Vet 1 .25 standard and looking for a Vet 2 .22. Thanks. BTW, i'm interested in the exact one you have, love it.
Hitech, if you shoot often like I do, I would opt for the bottle. If you want to shoot heavy slugs and heavier ammo, opt for the 700mm as it has more power with a 72cc power plenum and longer barrel. I shoot lighter pellets and slugs and am getting around 80-90 shots with the 550mm bottle. I shoot the JSB 18gr (975fps), NSA 20.2gr .218 and FX Hybrids. If mostly for hunting then tube. It is stated it is a kevlar bottle able to fill to 300 bar but I fill mine to 250 bar.

@hitech - I get about the same as @Ranchibi with the 550mm barrel. I got my son the 550mm V2 standard with the tube and he loves it. Lower shot count but same trigger and accuracy. He's also shooting the 18.1g JSB and JTS and with his first hunt got a squirrel in the head at 109 yards. I fill both of mine to 250 bar as Taipan say that is the limit although the bottle and tube are rated to 300. I did fill it over 250 but got very poor results. I think the regulator doesn't like the extra pressure. Never had a problem once I went to 250. And considering the shot count is between 250 and 150 (I have not tested the pressure so I'm guessing) , the gun is an air miser!

Ranchibi and Pfddi, thanks so much for the responses. My initial thought was to get the tube version, but I think I might like the bottle version for the shot count and I would only plan to fill to 250. I fill my Airmaks Katran to 250 even tho it says 300. 80-90 shots is plenty and I plan on shooting mostly pellets and maybe some lighter slugs. I'm not a bottle guy, I have 3 tube PCPs and I like the thinner forend of the tube, however, I still might get this in the bottle. Thanks!

@airgunmike56 - I did it just to show the grouping out of each barrel of the Taipans. I had the slugs handy so I shot them also. The 700mm is unchoked so I shoot nothing but slugs out of it. Some may not be hole in hole do to the operator! I also do like you do. I shoot pellets mostly and certainly under 100 yards. They're just more reliably accurate. I shoot the slugs over 100 yards. I have up to 1,000 yards to shoot, so the slugs are a must!

I am scratching my head , Why shoot slugs at 30 yards? I can stack pellets one on top of the other at that range ,,,
Even at 50 yards with pellets if the edges are not touching , I need to clean my barrel,, I just don't get this slug thing.

The reason I do in my .177 is for expansion and the KOs are the same price as pellets and the accuracy is about the same . I haven't found a slug that shoots as accurate as pellets in .22 so I use pellets. My next quest is to find a hollow point pellet that is accurate out to 50yds in .22 cal so I can get more expansion. I can get get decent groups with Polymags in .22 but need to do some more testing before making the switch.

These are some 50y groups with 16gr Polymags using my Vet 1 and Maverick both in .22 . But I still want to be sure they are consistent.
