Taipan taipan veteran 2 for benchrest

I am looking at the Taipan Veteran 2 700mm 22 for strictly for benchrest, 50 to 75 yards. I see great videos, "out of box" that show great accuracy. Has anyone shot benchrest and done well with a Taipan Veteran 2? What kind of accuracy can one expect? Are the videos believable?
For what it’s worth, I haven’t done much target/benchrest shooting with mine, but headshots on squirrels at all your expected ranges are very easy, as long as I don’t introduce a shooter issue (pull a shot etc). It’s as accurate as any rifle I’ve ever shot -air or powder burning. There’s always some variation between individual guns, but I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Perry, I’ve had a few first Gen .22 Vets of different lengths and all were fantastic shooters. Sorry but I don’t have any experience with Gen 2’s but I would expect they are as accurate as seen in the videos. oddly the 2 compacts I had were as accurate as the Std and long versions I had too, all shooting 18s.

Personally I think they made a visual fail with the Gen 2 bottle versions aesthetics. It just looks like a last minute add on to appeal to some shooters wanting more shots. No doubt it’s functional but fugly looking to my 👀 s

I’m guilty of being one of those guys wanting “more shots.” After playing with marauders I was craving something that would put 80-100 shots down range….oddly enough my marauder was modded out to the point I can get 60+ before falling off the regulator, but I have to say I really enjoy the side lever on the taipan. I added one to my marauder, and it’s nice, but I can’t say it’s as smooth or easy as the taipans.

The slug ability is something I have really enjoyed as well. I haven’t gotten into any of the crazy heavy ones yet, but that’s in the plans.

Be forewarned that the advertised barrel may not be exactly what you get. I was under the impression I was getting a polygon barrel in mine(veteran 2 tactical long), upon inspection it has standard rifling. No effect on the accuracy , just not what I thought I was getting.

Hi Perry,

I mostly benchrest shoot and have a Taipan Vet 2 with the 550mm CZ barrel.

I bought it off AGN in close to new condition. The original owner replaced the stock regulator with a Huma reg set at 150bar. Nothing wrong with stock reg - original owner informed he just likes Humas in all his rifles.

I’ve recently started shooting 25.39g JSB MRDs with my Vet2. I’m getting excellent results at 40 yards with them at 860-865fps. (10-ring is .125”).

I’m getting easily 45-50 shots shooting from 250bar down to reg pressure.

You can get the tube version with the 700mm barrel - if you want to explore higher velocities while maintaining a good shot count - without going to bottle versions of Vet 2.

The rifle is nice and heavy, which I like on the bench. It is easy to single shot load. Magazines are also excellent as they are not spring loaded - so no pellet deformation due to spring pressure.

The Vet 2 is built extremely well and is silky smooth to operate. That is in comparison to 15 PCPs I own - mostly high end including Daystate, FX, RTI, Weihrauch, etc.

I’m very happy with my Taipan Veteran 2 as a bench gun. If your use case will be 75+ yards with pellets, you may want to go with the .25 over the .22. I don’t shoot slugs so can’t provide any input on that topic.

LOL, Thanks - yep I precision target shoot off a flexible plastic “table” mounted to tripod legs while sitting in a rickety old steel chair that is not level - and with multiple towels and cushions stacked on it…

… it adds to the challenge of keeping those crosshairs still on the 45X Sightron 😉
