Taipan Taipan Veteran 2 Tac Cocking issue

Went to the range today with my brand new Taipan Veteran 2 Tac and encountered a frustrating problem of not being able to cock on a consistent bases. Sometimes, it won't cock on the first try. Sometimes, I would be able to shoot 3 shots then it won't cock again. It would cock half way and I won't be able to fully cock the gun. The only way it will consistently cock the gun is to pull and hold the trigger then to cock at the same time, then release the trigger. Or, when the cocking at stuck midway, I had to pull the trigger slightly to listen for the sear to drop, which then allows me to fully cock the gun.

A quick internet search shows similar problem with Taipan Veteran 1 and the solution is to adjust the trigger with higher tension or the sear adjustments. I have yet adjust the linkage tentioner since I don't really know what that does. Below are similar issues from others with Taipan Veteran 1 that I read. I figured since my problem is the same with the same trigger system, then it was worth a try.

Well, I did all the adjustments in the past 4 hours and it is still having the cocking issues.

I also backed out the hammer spring since it's also a known issue that having turn the hammer spring all the way in won't cock the gun either. But in my mind, both are seperate issues.

I was able to take of picture of when it's cocked half way. As you can see, the yellow arrow which is pointing to the hammer spring that is stucked or blocked by that bump shown in green arrow. When that happens, I'll need to pull the trigger to let the sear drop to lower the bump, then I'll be able to fully cock the gun. There must be a solution to this. I hope somebody can help. Besides this problem, this gun shoots like lazer, it's the most accurate gun I own at the moment, just too bad it's got the cocking issue.

Okay, after cocking and dry firing for a good part of the day to study the mechanics of the trigger system, I think I found the problem and a solution. And so far my adjustments is working. The problem is the sear (yellow arrow) won't drop down after firing. So when I cock again, it won't cock all the way due to that bump. Since all the trigger systems is connected, I played with the second stage trigger tension and the sear tension to see if the tensions will pull the sear downwards after firing. I rotated both tension clockwise and low and behold, it pulled the sear downwards after firing. To test if that is what's affecting the sear, I reverse the tension to make it lighter on both, and the problem came back.
Another day of shooting tomorrow, let see if my adjustments solves the problem.

Came back from my morning of woods walking with about 100 shots with the new adjustments. I'm happy to say the cocking issue totally went away. I tried fast cocking, slow cocking, light trigger pull, full trigger pull, no jamming of cocking issue at all.

Just to memorialize my adjustments for future internet search for solution to the problem, at least for my particular gun.
1. Rotate the sear tensioner clockwise two full turns. I first tried quarter turn increments but ended up with two full turns for my gun.
2. Rotate tension of 2nd stage trigger clockwise until the sear drops down when firing.

I'm so glad you figured out the trigger issue on your new Vet2! The cocking on them is just so smooth and effortless, sublime as Dillon said! Now you can just SHOOT!
It is my favorite gun right now. Laser accurate, shoots all the jsb varieties ( including FX and AA) 18 grain and jsb 20.83 monster lights very very well, smooth cocking, and awesome trigger. I can't think of a better gun at it's price point. I'm a Taipan believer now.

Because of Dillon I have also became a huge Taipan fan and I find them equal to or better in some ways than my fav RAW! At their respective price points, there definitely is no better PCP built like you said 👍...I am smitten!

Such a timely post. I have a brand new Taipan Veteran 2 tactical 550mm, I had the same exact problem! 2 problems actually, but this one really bothered me. I did the exact thing you did (Archdesigner03) with adjusting the second stage tension as well as the engagement, didn't do squat, but it certainly does what it was designed to do, just didn't fix my cocking issue. Like you, I studied how everything worked and went ahead and adjusted the sear tensioner. Well, that did it, seems like it works fine now. I did this yesterday after having the gun for about 5 days. My other problem is a slow leak somewhere. Recieved the gun, it was empty. Pumped it up, lost about 25 bar overnight. Shot the crap out of it over the last few days, seems better, but still a very slow leak. Not worried about it too much right now, will probably degass and make sure bottle, gauge are tight. I think the gun sat in the warehouse for a while and probably lost air over time and the orings/oil dried up a tad bit. We'll see.... Glad you got your trigger fixed, it wasn't hard once you look inside and study it.

@hitech If you’re filling the tank more than 250 bar, try stopping at 250 and see if it holds air. I had the same problem and it went away after filling to 250 and no more,
Nope, only filling to around 230-240 bar, but thanks for the tip Pfddi. I recieved the gun empty which I thought was odd. I've bought many PCPs over the last 20 years, never once did I get one empty, so I figured it had a slow leak. I think I read one of your posts where this had happened to you (or another Vet owner) and I remembered not to go over 250, so I stopped short.
