Taipan Taipan Veteran 2 Tactical 550mm .22

I got one of these ordered and will be here in the next few days. Yes I know .22. I had posted about a .25 or .30 but just think it's overkill for my needs. Plan is to shoot either the 21.9gr AEA/JTS 22.07gr pellets, the JSB Monster Lights or potentially light weight slugs. Being it has an unchoked barrel it's got a good chance to shoot some slug decently well without a ton of effort. Will be giving my thoughts on the gun once I recieve it and in comparison to my Taipan Veteran Long .22. Both have 550mm barrels so will be close to compare. Still debating on scope to either use an Athlon Talos 10x42 I have coming tomorrow or potentially swapping that scope with my 4-16x44 Arken LH4 off my Tikka T1X. Will see once I get the Athlon what I think. Really looking forward to getting my hands on the new Taipan model!

I was wondering what you had ordered. I think you made a great choice in brand , caliber and length. I've seen some nice groups and targets from EPG and others with 25.4gr pellets . They seem to shoot pellets very well from a non choked barrel. The shot count and power level looks good also . Looking forward to your review of the platform and accuracy results with slugs and pellets.

Looking forward to your review. I have been looking at these myself. Wish they did a standard model with the anti double feed. Maybe in the near future 🤷🏻‍♂️
I thought about waiting too but for the proce that they are on sale I couldn't pass it up. Plus I'm not a fan of leading a pellet in the barrel in case some freak thing would happen like a valve stem crack and leak or something. I don't use the anti double load on the Vet1 either. Just me though.
It will feel similar to the long except you picked up the tactical version , so it may be less "bulky". Not that the standard was. I'm also considering a vet 2 ADL as well as the upcoming "slash". But that one is a TBD after IWA presentation.
Yeah it looks like it should feel similar besides the bulk from the tank. I've no interest in the new gun except I just want to see what It is. Looks alot different than the Vets.

I figured I've tried many brands and came back to the old Vet1 why try something different? The base gun is the same minus a few upgrades so made sense to me. I've seen EPGs posts as well and see it does well with heavier pellets.

Dillon, congratulations! Looking forward to your thoughts on it 👍.
Thanks Randall! I'm looking forward to it too lol

@Dairyboy - I have the Vet 2 tactical 550mm in .22 (and 700mm). It really likes the KO .218 25.39g slugs and I shoot them and the JSB MRDs at the same weight. A couple of clicks on the elevation makes it centered for either one at 30 yards. The KOs are he!! on squirrels. Ragged hole at 30 yards with the KOs which I don't get with too many other guns and slugs and the same hole with the pellets. I have an IO 14x50 prismatic on the 550mm.

That's great to hear! I have some JSB Knockouts however I think they are MK2. We'll see. They look really nice though with a good hollowpoint. Really looking forward to trying mine out!

I trust my Taipans more than any other airguns I own . They are robust, no poi shifts or wonky first shots. I am also interested in their newly designed PCP's as well . I have my Urban up for sale and looking at other rifle length airguns but I'm not sure a 38-40 inch airgun would get get used as much as my bullpups . I know you have tried way more brands than I have and believe you on your comparisons. I feel lucky that Taipans were my 2nd and 3rd higher end airguns and have been really impressed with them. And reading about the issues on some of the other high end brands makes me think they were a great choice. I paid $1100 for mine , and some guys put more money into a Notos than that . Not knocking their decision but think the Taipans are a bargain for the price.

What's not to like?

Mine came in today! Man it feels good in the hand. I did put an Ergo 0 degree on it. Trigger is as great as the Gen1s. The cocking is probably the best cocking I've felt. Sublime. It feels very balanced. I'm going to put a scope on it and see what it does hopefully by tonight. It's tuned at 900fps with the 21.9gr AEA pellets. Have those to try and the 20gr Monster Lights. And might crank it up and see what it can produce power wise. Try some Knockouts in it.

What's the weight of the unscoped rifle, Dillon?
I will check that later once kiddos are in bed. Felt no different weight wise to my Vet1. Those laminate stocks are heavy!
Where did you buy it from Dillon?
Tony at Talon Airguns. Seems when I buy a new gun thats where I go 95% of the time.
How bout some pics!? And could you please tell me the overall length as i thinking of getting 1 also to go with my 700 mm 25
Lol I realize I forgot to take a pic. Will do and will measure. I believe it is supposed to be around 32" similar to the Vet1 Long.
