Got my .22 Taipan Vet long from TT Saturday. Pleasantly surprised. It is a lot quieter than I thought it would be, even without the Koi. I wasn't sure how I would like the rear cocking lever, but I got used to it after a mag or two. Here are a couple of pics. They don't do it justice.

 

I have only been able to shoot it about 30yds so far. But it is dead on. Here is something different. Instead of showing a 5 shot group, I shot the numbers and bulleye of the target with five shots. I am not the greatest of shots either.

Congrats! They are nice guns for sure! The only real complaint is the rear cocking, but like you said, you get used to it quickly.

LOL, I do the same thing with my targets shoot the numbers then the bullseye.

Nice !!! ..... while not shooting my TAIPANS frequently as I would like .... my Mutant .22 and Veteran .177 sure do perform !!

Hey, great shooting there Lance. I just got my vet long today from Tony. What pellets are you shooting and at what speed? What kind of shot count are you getting? I am only getting 20 shots from 250-100 bar which I find strange? Mine was tuned for 25.4’s at 920 FPS.

I shot that with jsb 18 grains at about 915fps. Think it will get 40-60 shots at that power. Have not done a shot string to check. 
sounds like you are running close to max power with what your shooting, so that sounds about right.

That's really pretty much maxed out. From past dealings with Tony, I'd guess that he loaded you up with an extremely stiff hammer spring that would give the front suspension springs in your vehicle a run for their money. Can't really fault the guy (in this case) though when he's asked to get that pellet going as fast as it possible from the platform. That whole idea makes me cringe when I consider longevity and wear and tear on the gun. Why didn't Taipan put the mother stoutest spring of all springs in there as OEM? 

Yeah, cool that it'll launch the 25.4s at 920fps, but not so cool when you realize the penalty is a 20 shot/fill rifle. 

Just depends on use though, if you're a hunter and not going to take many shots that might work just fine.

Some smarter than myself will hint at the concept that the traditional rifling in these Vets actually does better at slower speeds. The big push in the benchrest crowd has been to get the 25.4 Monster RD's going 960-980fps. Most of the guys getting really good results with that pellet going that fast are shooting guns with polygonal profile rifling.

My little .25 Vet shorty gets 30+ shots. 25 grain KINGS at 870fps.

Yes, OEM hammer spring. Gun doesn't even feel like it's working hard.

I've got another bout 270 degrees more tension with the hammer tension before it won't cock, but even with oem hammer spring that additional 270 degrees and it starts to get wasteful on air (can just tell from the shot cycle too) and shot count plummets. For now, the 850 with 25.4s seems a happy medium. 

Gun also has plenum but without heavier hammer spring that doesn't buy much energy (I think it was good for 15-20fps when I tried to max things out, if I remember right). With the OEM hammer spring currently in the gun, the plenum appears to be have more effect on efficiency than increasing energy.

Tony just verified mine has the OEM HS and he said that shooting mine (with added power plenum) will not escalate wear or put undue stress on the internal mechanics.
