taipan veteran or uragan , which and why ?

I don't have a Taipan Veteran, but I do have a Vulcan2 Tactic and from everything I see on the Uragan … it is simply a synthetic stock Tactic with a big bottle on it. I have just purchased a Uragan .25 with the big bottle. I am sitting right here with a big box that the wife says I can't open until Christmas.

Sooooo why would I buy a Uragan if I think that it is nothing more than a Vulcan2 with a bottle. Simple … the Vulcan2 is a laser. It is easy to maintain, wonderful trigger, good to great shot count, quiet (with a moderator), accurate as heck, putting a whole 10 shot magazine in a half inch at 70 yards. I have put at least 10,000 rounds through the Vulcan Tactic and the only thing that I had to do is change out the breech o-ring twice. The regulator is at least as good as a Huma, the extreme spread on it is 9 fps going from 907 to 898. It shoots the 25.39 grain JSB beautifully but it really doesn't care for the heavies … I could probably try to get it to shoot heavies by playing with the HST and the regulator, but I'm not going to mess with it right now. The Uragan should give me around 100 shots per fill and I will probably mess with the HST and regulator with that one rather than the Tactic. When the Tactic was new it was a little finnicky about cleaning the barrel, but since it has been broken in, I'll bet I don't have to clean it more than once every 700 to 900 rounds. The CZ barrel is fantastic.

Well, anyway, that's why I'm buying the Uragan and own it's little twin brother the Tactic. I know the Tactic is a laser and am betting that the Uragan is also. AGT does things right.

you really cant go wrong with either of these guns. i never had uragan , but had a vulcan2 pup and a taipan vet. both were accurate , taipan was smoother to cock , but lever was at the back. if you are target shooting mostly. you will probably prefer the uragan. more shots per fill. more forward placed cocking lever. but i have heard nothing bad about either.

I have the Vulcan 177 and loading the spring magazine is a pain in the as s. I am sure it is easer with the 22, 25 and 30 caliber, But you still have the spring on the magazine and load them one at a time,,, NOW, The Veteran, and the Cricket magazines are a breeze to load, SO SO easy and simple. I know , I know the 30, 25, and 22 caliber guys call there guns Lasers, But I see the arch of the pellets , You want to see laser, Take a look at the 177 guns shooting the 177 pellet at 940 FPS, Its a true LASER.

I have a Taipan Veteran, a Standard in .22, and I love it. No experience with the Uragan, but it sounds comparable. I decided on the Taipan simply because I could find a couple of folks with whom to discuss it, who both had experience with it, and I trusted their opinions. I can say it is very simple in design, robust, accurate and, the real bonus, a great trigger.

I have both and to me it would depend on what i I was useing it for. I have my Taipan Veteran .177 setup to do some Field Target work and for open class and WFTF I think it's suited rather nicely for this type of shooting. I luv the fact that it has a open breach and It comes with a single shot tray. I dislike magazines for the shooting I do and the Veteran is one of the only bullpups that has a.single shot tray. My .177 Veteran Standard is getting over 200 shots at 12ft lbs and 120 shots at 19ft lbs and is very easily adjusted with the exposed hammer spring. I luv the fact that this can be done so easily. The.trigger on the Vet is outstanding for a.bullpup...easily the best bullpup trigger I have ever pulled.

Now for the Uragan I believe it's better setup for a hunting/pesting rig. With the.big bottle it can get lots of shots in .25 and .30 calibers. It has a good trigger but I do not like that the trigger is.plastic...for.such a well built rifle it should be metal in my opinion. My regulator on the Uragan is phenomenal...I'm getting 40 shots at 83ft lbs...that's a 45grn pellet at 915fps and has a extreme spread of only 15 fps over that 40 shots. Shot to shot consistency is 2fps. The accuracy of my .30 Uragan is good but I really haven't had the chance to shoot much past 50yds so I can't comment on longer range accuracy. But at 50 yds mine will stack pellets about the.size of your fingernail. I love where the safety is on both these rifles which is forward of the trigger inside the trigger guard.

If I had to pick one platform I think I'd go with the Taipan Veteran just because to me it has the COOL ASS FUNKY factor going for it. I think it's the blocky forend and ole skool bullpup look that does it for me. Also the single shot tray and better trigger really nails it. So that's my opinion...really u can't go wrong with either rifles and I'm glad I have both.

I've had the Taipan mutant, 2 Vulcans- a .22 and still have a .25, and a .30 Cal Uragan.

Turkey hunting this year, my daughter, her boyfriend and myself have each made very ethical, clean kills on large birds, my daughter's at silly yardage. I've killed 2 coyotes and flattened 10- ish ground squirrels with the Uri.

The mutant has killed 100' s of g. Squirrels , pigeons and more, delightful to carry and un hearable beynd 25 yards, opening up areas to hunt where louder guns would prohibit. Accurate, incredible trigger and did I mention, a joy to carry?

They are both wonderful for what they are intended for- a friend of mine runs slugs though his .22 Veteran and flattened a big bird this year. I've shot along side of him while he sent buckets of

squirrels to the big squirrel hole in the sky, countless numbers, while I was trying to keep up with my mutant or Vulcan.

I sold my mutant, bought the uragan for coyote, distance and turkey work. I've other .22's and and even a pumped up 1720T that does similar work as the Taipan, so I'm not feeling the loss.

That being said, at the range today, another friend came up while I was practicing, asked what .22 rifle he should buy to hunt turkeys with- given his semi residential area, I didn't hesitate to recommend the Taipan. The Uri is a lot of fun ( and a lot of gun) where one has to be cautious of pass throughs, riccochets and similar hazards. The Taipan, if you fit it, is amazing.

I'd love to get either a Taipan or Uragan in .177 and use them for FT- they are both that good and comfortable to shoot.

Cheers!

I have the same question as the OP. I just got into PCP recently with a pair of Gauntlets. they are fine for the money but very big and bulky for hunting. Looking to get a gun for Squirrels and pigeons. Squirrels would be walking through the woods and shooting them out of trees. Pigeons would be off of barn roofs and silos. What caliber would you guys recommend? .22 or .25?? slugs? Looking at a Taipan veteran standard, uragan , FX dreamline tactical, or JSAR raptor mini. Anyone put a sling on these? a sling is a must for woods carry.

Thanks

I have shot a few pigeons in the day and I preferred a .25 for them. If I body shot a pigeon with a .22 they would fly away a good portion of the time. With a .25 that doesn't happen. Now that was with pellets and I have no idea how a .22 slug performs on a pigeon. If I chose .22 I'd make sure the gun can be turned up to shoot in the 40ft lb range and possibly shoot .25grn monsters for more THUMP.

Edgun R5m and Lelya 2.0 have built in sling adapters and work great with a one point sling. Very compact and are both made in .22 and .25. Also well made guns and.easy to work on. I'd also consider a TAIPAN Veteran Long in either .22 or .25.

I have the Veteran Standard in .22. I put a front stud on for bipod use, but if I hunt in the woods, I'll add a rear stud for a sling. It's not a light rifle. I have no experience with the Uragan, but I did watch the three part video on the web site. I know it is a very well regarded rifle, but after seeing the videos, I believe the Veteran is a simpler and more robust design, and the trigger is great, offering a wide range of adjustment, a true match grade trigger. I''m sure you would be happy with either.

When I was using my Taipan on the hunt, I really never felt the need to use the sling, on the other hand, first day with the Nova Liberty and I went online and ordered one, too long rifle. I used to carry the Taipan from the base where the trigger guard connect to the back of the gun and carry the gun as a suitcase, the gun was upside down, really comfortable to handle.

In my previous weekend hunt I hurt myself while trying to carry the Liberty with one hand, the trigger guard has a sharp edge and I just got my finger touching it and it was blood everywhere, those are the moments that I really miss my Taipan!

For you my friend, I must recommend the Taipan Veteran .25 Short (or .22) or the Edgun Lelya (.25 or .22). Both of these rifles are extremely short (350 mm barrels) and pack a whallop, esp in .25. They are both very light, seriously accurate, and offer amazing balance in shouldering for offhand shooting. My Taipan Shorty in .25 is my go-to gun at this point, offering a compact lighter package, with a truly unbelievable trigger, 30 solid shots on the reg at 860 fps (25 gr JSB for a solid 40 ft lbs), and ridiculous accuracy. Benched or offhand, this is the airgun that truly offers the best of both worlds. The Lelya also, although I do not own one (yet), but have shot them.

The Uragan standard is a bit long for hunting as you describe. The compact you should look into in .22

Only have the experience with taipan shorty .22 and .25. Pros are their tanks, verry compact super quiet with a ronin it’s insane how quiet they are. The .22 use not pellet picky at all the jsb rs 13g - 18g stackeds them. The anti double feed is great for hunting can de cock it move re cock it plus mags are simple and deep. Single shot tray included. They seem to have some power for their size too. But I would be interested in a Uragan compact some day. Oh and glocks have plastic triggers.... lol

Call me a trigger snob because plastic trigger on a otherwise quality rifle just doesn't feel right. Yea coming from one that owns a Uragan...if I'm going to sit and shoot this from a bench like I do the feel of the trigger to me is a HUGE part of the shooting experience and a plastic trigger just doesn't feel right in my opinion. I like quality guns and guns that just feel right and everything is there for the Uragan except that plastic trigger lol. Now Taipan Veterans are the way to go with a metal trigger blade to go along with a.great trigger. For that reason alone I'd go with a Veteran.
