It is my understanding these are just fine rifles, but like my AGT Vulcan 3 it is also extremely basic air rifles, actually i feel there is a lot of what i call AK47 air rifles.
I am a fan of single shot loading, but on my Maverick too which i also consider a very basic rifle, well i am tired of the ever present danger of putting a pellet into my ear instead of the rifle.
Even worse is the rifles you also cock by the ear, that's just a disaster in my book.

TBH i am a bit disappointed with most brands of airrifles, CUZ in my eyes they have just reinvented the wheel in the past decade.
BUT ! i am looking for anti gravity pods not wheels, if you know what i mean.

Beauty, of course, is in the eye of the beholder. Tony is setting one up for me now since I like the fact that this rifle has been stripped down to its basics. It has a functional look about it.

I am flexible in my tastes, this rifle and my Edgun on one side of the scale and my more traditional wood stock classics such as my bolt action BSAs, Huntsman Revere, and American Air Arms Paradigm on the other. Variety is the spice of life, or in my case, the spice of retirement 😏. David

Easy solution., don‘t like it, don’t buy one.

Why does it look like it does? Form follows function, so if you are going to adhere to that principle you strip off the cladding and the other external bits that do nothing to add to the function, and you get this.(if you go to the Taipan website you can watch the animation showing just that as they deconstruct the Veteran to transform it to the Tactical.) Keep it simple, which is why I got the Synthetic 700 rather than doll it up with some laminate bits. (MDT black vertical grip sitting here to add on to finish it up.)

There is more than one aesthetic in PCPair rifles even within the same product line. Compare the Daystate Huntsman and their new Grand Prix. Traditional English at one end of the product line to what I guess you might call the industrial high tech look At the other.

Again if you don’t like the look they are lots of other choices out there For you.

I just don’t get it the gun is a fat pig 14 lbs. coming in hot fat! More like it.
That heavy? I have the 550 standard version. It's the customary 8.5 pounds. Even with the tactical frame, it shouldn't exceed 9.5 pounds. Which is quite heavy enough I grant you. Where did it list that weight?
*note - Tony's site lists it at 9.3 pounds.

Agree, the esthetics, oh boy! Part cyclinder/part bottle gun, like they couldn’t make a decision and did both.🙀🙈🤓
The 550 version reminds me a little of a dreamtac compact I had that needed an offset adapter to allow a bottle to clear the moderator. I'm pretty forgiving on looks of platforms, but the 550 version does appeal more than the 700.

It’s still listed as 4kg in the 70mm version. I haven’t the foggiest as to where the 14 lbs figure came from, not from the company website, not from Tony and not from my contact at Utah Airguns who also sells Taipan. (Talon Tunes lists the weight of the 700mm version as 9.3 lbs, not 14.)

Apparently this is the forum equivalent of urban myth, something that makes no sense but becomes fact if repeated often enough.

Frankly, the 14 pounds claim makes no sense if you take a minute to watch the animation video at the Taipan website. The Tactical version looks like they stripped off some external covering etc and perhaps added a heavier barrel/shroud/larger moderator. So a weight jump from 8.5 to 14?

Okay you pundits happily bashing a new product, where is your source for what seems to make no sense at all?

And to my smarmy friend who had to look up obstreperous, you can add pundit to your vocabulary as well. No charge for the education.
