Taipan Vets offhand?

The Taipan Veteran Long is the first PCP and bull pup that I’ve owned. Compared to what I was used to shooting (which was Weihrauch springers) it is way easier to shoot offhand. I guess it is subjective but I find my Veteran Long with a 30 oz scope and moderator to still be very easy to shoot offhand. The balance point is almost at the trigger.

Are the Taipans any good offhand?

Most of the shooting I do is offhand, so considerable weight is allocated here before making a purchase.

Which would balance better for this, the Short, Standard or Long?
Not the balance that's off but the stupid cocking lever all the waaaaay back in your face end of the gun crap that kills many in hesitating in getting one

It's not the balance but more the stupid design of having the cocking lever at the extreme back end of the gun that's stupid

It has been my observation, this is mostly an issue for folks who have not tried one! I admit, I was uncertain about it at first, but after the first day of shooting, it has never entered my mind again. Why does it matter that it's close to your face? If shooting offhand, you have to come out of position to cock the rifle anyway. For shooting with sticks from a seat, it has proven ideal. I'm right handed, so I leave the rifle in position, reach over the comb and cock with my left hand, my dominant side remains in control, works great. If it doesn't work for you in practice, then it's an issue, and maybe not the rifle for you. My only suggestion, don't be talked out of trying it. Had I been, I would have missed out on one of my favorite rifles.

Tell me the last fire arm you've shot where the stupid cocking lever is in your face at the end of the gun, not to mention the mag where all the noise go to your ears, not one.
The closer a gun is like a real fire arm the better.

I sure do like the ignore selection !
Not the first, and likely won't be the last time we've seen a Goldwing rant about the rear-cocking abomination (in his estimation) that is the Veteran. Surely that's why the gun has such a weak following. I mean, NOBODY likes a Taipan Veteran. Pure junk, with that cocking lever in the wrong place and all. If they only had ONE, single redeeming quality, but alas, nope.

The lever should not be "in your face", unless you are lefty and shooting a RH rifle, or vice-versa. As for the noise, unless you are in the upper 70 dB or more, or have ear health issues, it should not be damaging. If needed, as with firearms, ear protection is no mystery. You are presenting your personal preferences as general guidelines, which is not usually totally accurate. But, I certainly respect your opinion on the rifle. It's easy not to own one, so problem avoided.

Question was...Taipans offhand...good question...pretty much the ONLY way I shoot mine...rear cooking lever not withstanding...consider these two examples of a groups I shot one with CP domes and my effort at the "30 yard challenge" with JSB 18s both sitting but not benched, at 31 measured yards...I've yet to need any earplugs because my ear was next to the action...unlike the muzzle blast of a SMALL cf firearm...the great Taipan trigger helps me no end for nonbenched shooting...even though the mag is next to my ear...The thing just works for me!

Taipans are world renowned Off Hand shooters. What makes them the best is the rear cocking lever. You don’t have to be a Houdini to shoot one either, even my 3 year old is shooting Field Target competitions and winning!
If you don't mine wasting all the extra time reaching back to the end of the gun each time have at it

Not at all, it’s almost like God himself designed it! All you have to do is reach over with your other hand, or ver the action, cock it, and you are good to go. I mean, it Stupid proof, well, almost, some people just don’t get it. I mean! You don’t even have to let go of the handle, like them stupid side lever designs!! Except for guns like the @rtiarms , they have the side lever on the other side. Freaking beasts too!!

That's the same technique I use when seated and using shooting sticks, works great.
