Talk to me about the FX Boss .30cal***update***

I'm about done with waiting for the Crown Unobtainium being on intergalactic backorder. Do any of you guys have any insight on the FX Boss .30cal? I had gotten so tired of waiting that I bought a Benjamin Kratos and I absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable PCP, so I have .22cal covered. But I still am looking for a .30cal for hunting, do you guys think the Boss is a good idea? Can you recommend something else? Or am I jumping from the frying pan into the fire?

What he said ☝🏼.. if you are set on 30 cal? Which wouldn’t really require the hammer adjustment wheel? Right? Who turns down a 30 cal? Anywho, I would take the Bobby or the boss, in 30 cal , over the crown! And I have two Crowns👍🏻 But that’s me?

With you having two Crowns, gives your opinion a little more weight. Thanks, now if I can find one in stock....

I think you'd do yourself a favor likely going with the Boss over the Crown in .30. Very dependable platform.

Do you know if the barrels are interchangeable?

With the right parts and a bit of work you can change calibers on a Boss. Or use a STX system on a Boss.

Here's mine with an unchoked German made LW polygon I had turned to fit.

Above it is a modified STX assembly in 600mm that will work in .22/.25/.30 with the right liner lock/stainless connector/brass inlet, then this extender I had made up so it'll take 700mm liners also.

It's been shot a tonne but never in .30 haha.

I'm more likely to leave it a .30, but put a 700mm heavy slug barrel assy on it , if it will fit without re-inventing the wheel.

You'd just need an STX setup, liner of your choice. Depending which you bought youd have to file down the inlet. (Maybe it's because I used Impact parts) its brass so it files easily. Then where the blued barrel house slides into the breech youd have to sand off a little like .5 to 1mm so it'll slide into the action.

As for the shroud maybe getting a kit for Impact would be best because the clearance on the barrel wont allow using a Crown shroud. And a 700mm Impact shroud will end just short of the cf bottle (not sure about aluminum bottle) so I imagine a 600 kit would do the same.

So you'd just need an STX kit for impact and you could modify that and make it work very well from a Boss with a couple hours work. (Sanding (barrel house), re-bluing(area sanded) and filing (brass barrel inlet)

Is it drop in? No.

Is it a worthwhile platform to spend a bit of time on? YES

I'd recommend getting a Huma reg if you go the heavy slug liner. Its smaller so gives you a bit more plenum space and can run well at higher pressures. It will never make the power of an Impact but I imagine you could get 100fpe out of one easily stock with a 700mm in .30.

No experience with the Boss, but I have a Royale 400 and it is a great rifle, and I believe they share the same platform. The Royale/Boss rifle is the only FX product I care to own. They are simple, robust, accurate, and do not suffer from a wandering POI as displayed by many of the liner/sleeve designs. If I need to take care of a pest, I know the Royale will shoot where I aim, every time, regardless of how long it may have been sitting in the cabinet. I can't remember the last time I cleaned the barrel, which is not uncommon in these rifles, they just don't foul much.

I'm still curious about the moderator, in box stock form - is it different than the rest of the FX line?
