I picked up a Talon P 22 last week.

The thread written by Franklink a few months ago ago plus some Pasadena Mike pushed me over the edge.

I have two set ups with it so far. The 123 top hat makes a nice 22-23fpe with CPHP and AAFalcons.
Swap to the .145 and I can run 18s at 33-34 fpe.

The 12” barrel holds it back for sure. If I put the .166 top hat in it just wastes air.

Accuracy seems good indoor, with the exception of the Daisys, but no gun I have likes those.

It is a very light gun with the power of my AA 500, which is what I was after. As a light gun it is hold sensitive but not hard to figure out. At either power level it is very quiet. Should be with the giant can.
I really like this one.

So now I need an 18” barrel for more power that I don’t really need LOL

The MadDog stock took care of any hold sensitivity on my TalonP.

I should clarify. Short light guns are much more difficult for me to be consistent with.

My test is my 10m range in the basement shooting the 30 yard target with the 12 little bulls.

Killing the dots is not easy. With my AA 500 it’s not hard to score a 200, it’s more a question of how many X there will be.

But I can’t do that with any of my other pcp that are short and light. Its a me wiggle thing.

Or I miss the dot but in the same spot four times in a row, only to have the miss move to a new spot for a few shots. That’s me.

Anyway, the ring loc comes with a top hat .070. I drilled it to .100 and now have velocity down to where wadcutters are around 700. Good for basement shooting and silent pesting.

With length of this mod I may as well get an 18” inch barrel. An adapter plus m40 will only be slightly longer with 4 chambers. In low power I could drop to two and still be hushed.

I should have bought one of these a long time ago.

Mmm, don’t know. Used gun. But with the .166 it just gushes air as it’s too much for the 12” .22
With the .145 it pushes 18 grain just over 900 with a nice thud. The .123 I can shoot CPHP in the 880s.

The ring loc kit comes with a little one .070, I drilled it to .100 and am shooting 17gr wadcutters at 700 for 50 or so shots. Very quiet.

The more I shoot the better it gets. I am getting used to it and the barrel is getting settled after clean and polish.

I want to get a couple more top hats and drill one to .150 or so and see where the limit is. Like would that get 21s up to 900 without wasting air? .166 is too much. .145 is good, .150 may be the ticket. But I have a lot of 18s…

Nice!!!

The various sized transfer ports really open up the tuning capabilities. And so dang cool that they can be swapped so easily.

I never saw the hold sensitivy that so many mention. BUT, I beefed up the frame with a long rail so maybe that's why?

I like the Air Force platform. Simple design, in a good way. Power capability from mild to wild.

I need to crack open a Taipan Veteran to rebuild the regulator right now, and having this happen (even though it's rare) sure makes a guy appreciate a non-regulated airgun like one from the Air Force line-up.

Would love to see a shot string from a chrony...

lol you think this guy is hold sensitive? Try the Condor
I really have not noticed any hold issues with my 2 Escape SS's, the Escape UL, my Condor or the TalonP I had but I see comments on it quite a bit. I like to keep them as light as I can so I have not shot with a hard stock and don't know the difference. They will throw the first pellet shot when you change from one pellet to a different one so it is best to waste the first shot when changing pellet weights so it doesn't mess up your group. I shot a 3/4 inch center to center 5 shot group with the .25 Escape SS this morning using JSB King Heavies 34.95 at 50 yards I have not finished tuning it for speed yet but that group was averaging 831fps at the settings I was using. I showed Mike the group and the first shot was a flier because I had changed weights and forgot to burn it so I dismissed that one from the group. I personally don't see any issues for hunting with them as they are from the factory.

So Chief, your escape has a 18” barrel? What top hat do you run and can you get those 34s closer to 900 before wasting air?

One day I will pick up another barrel, likely a 18” 22 with the goal of getting 25 gr up to 900 or so.
I think it will do that.
I don’t have any 25s now, but I don’t want to go 24” to get heavies moving.
The Escape is (I think) a different valve. I know it is hotter than a Condor. It will push a 34.5g 900fps.
The valve is "full bore" and that's that, no adjustment ( port change) to be had.

10 shots averaging a bit over 60 ft lbs with the power wheel set to 3-8 and utilizing the .233 insert. I like this setup which gives me the option to dial the rifle up in power in the field if I come across pigs, yotes, or such and need max power. I could use a smaller insert to be a bit more air efficient, but I lose that ability to "crank her up" if necessary. Had the rifle out at the WMA today and shooting golf ball sized targets at 82 yards was lots of fun.

An 18 inch barrel will open lots of possibilities ...

So here is something I noticed, in those AF guns there may be a hammer weight, a cylinder of metal behind the spring but in front of the actual hammer. On my guns at an orifice that is on the big side for the power that I want, if I remove the hammer weight, then the power decreases (duh), but I also now get adjustability through the power wheel, and I can get almost the same power when I crank the power wheel up to the max setting (13 or whatever).
For example, a Condor .22 with 24" barrel, 0.145 orifice, 20 grain projectile:
no weight: under 30 to 45 ft#
with weight: 40 to 45 ft#
But if the orifice is too big or too small then the power wheel doesn't do much.
I think the tank air pressure peak range is also increased when the weight is added, so I may have a sweet spot between 2300 and 1800psi without the weight, but with it the peak is 2500 to 2100psi.
Does that sound like what y'all are seeing?

No, the gun I was shooting is an Escape SS .25 which is the same as a Talon P but with a built-in shroud/mod, with baffles. It has a 12-inch barrel and a small tank. I like those better than Talon P but they perform pretty much the same. I have 2 of them, one in .22 and another in .25. I do also have the Escape UL .25 with the 18-inch barrel and I love that thing even more. It's my favorite right now. I also have a Condor .22 with a 24-inch barrel as well.

As far as speed, yes, I am only at 8.95 on the wheel at this time and will be bringing it up. I am not done tuning it yet. I have been shooting different weights trying to find what it likes. I will be looking for low to mid 900s but I am using the Condor tank and valve on it at the moment but I believe they are the same valve. I believe the only valve that is different is the plain Talon which has reduced power.

Speed is not that much of an issue for me because I have a Zulus 5-20 with the range finder and BDC and it is dead on when you set the weight and speed correctly.

I have to many guns so am rotating them all the time to shoot them all and so it takes me longer to tune each one the way I want from shooting all of them. If I could do it over again, I would only have 2 or 3 but it is hard to find what you would like till you try them out yourself.

Very nice, I only got mine recently but I absolutely love it. I have been shooting the Barracudas and JSB King Heavies in mine. I have not put mine on the Chronograph yet but will the next time I shoot it. If I could only have one gun the Escape UL would be it but I do not have to be overly concerned about being backyard friendly I just shoot at a time when no one would be sleeping. We are in the country and every day someone is shooting something.

Another gun I have that is really powerful, accurate and an underrated great gun that you never hear about and is reasonably priced is the Seneca Eagle Claw carbine .25. If someone wants the power and accuracy of Airforce airguns for hunting but just can't live without a repeater this is a great choice. It also has a power wheel but it is a bit heavier. Being old I prefer the weight of an Airforce gun. Give me the Escape UL any day.
