Had a few condors over the years. this one is going to stay the way it is...a pistol. I just wanted to know which is quieter.

I modded this setup a couple of times. The larger DonnyFL moderators quieted the Talon-P down to acceptable levels. Early on there were no quality silencers available, so we used slide-on's. They were pretty effective but lacked today's superior materials, machining and design.

As I've said many times, if you want to "muffle", then a small to medium sized moderator will do the job. However, if you want real quiet...the kind needed around my hyper-hysterical neighbors, then go big or just don't bother to go at all! The Sumo is beefy, as is the Shogun. Last forever, built solid, and with an adapter you can use both on several guns and calibers. My .25 works equally well on .25 and smaller slugs and pellets.

Your mileage may vary, but my experience has stayed consistent! Proper moderator/pistol matchup has kept me out of police attention when my neighbors' listening posts report I'm doing something they might not approve of. In the past year they've called the police, wildlife commission, local newspaper, and the fire department on me. They are uptight real sensitive individuals. Whereas I tend to keep my belt loops a bit looser...

Kindly 'Ol Uncle Hoot

Thanks Uncle, I was planning on the Ronin from Donny. I have a Sumo on a P-rod, my lord that thing is quiet.

I also have a neighbor that gets his panties in a bunch easily. All the guns here are muffled. I was hoping someone would drop in with a comparison of the two. I'll just go with the Donny, interchangeable between guns and if I don't like I can always sell it.

thanks again

Mike

If you really need it to be quiet Neil Clague LDC is the way to go.

I use a Ronin on my Talonp out and about and it does an ok job. But for true backyard reduction, the LDC that Neil makes is another level in sound reduction.

You'll need the ring lock valve kit to adjust airflow

I planned to get the ring-loc kit when I purchase the gun.

Can you give me the size of Neils moderator. I want to keep this thing as compact as possible. Thanks

I use a 10" LDC on mine, and it keeps is backyard friendly sound wise up until around 70 fpe. But when shooting in yard I never shoot that high of fpe.

I asked Neil for maximum quiet and he suggested using the 10" that he uses on .357's.

You can just tell him you're looking for a shorter one, and he'll make you a shorter version.

But having a neighbor who doesn't appreciate the sounds of shooting, this 10" LDC + middle tophat insert at 40fpe is absolutely silent.

My point exactly. This looks a lot like the size of a Condor SS. I want to see you stand up and shoot this like a pistol.

Set up as a carbine, with bullpup extension. Can easily change it into a pistol and add a red dot sight if I want more of a pistol.

I have a shorter LDC and 500cc tank to make full power.

Nothing wrong with options

Well the question remains unanswered. Which one is quieter, a Talon pistol with a Ronin from Donny or the modified Texan moderator. I emailed both parties and received honest answers from them both. Nobody knew for sure. No one said mine is better, I thank both these guys for being straight up and not bash each other. That is what I call integrity, Donny and AGD have it.

When I spoke to Airforce they did tell me that they are introducing an adapter/silencer combo for the Talon pistol that will replace the standard end cap. Couldn't get any details on end cap dimensions, what thread is on the can, is the cap on the Talon P and the Talon carbine interchangeable and so on.

I'm still on the fence on which way to go. If you have experience with one or the other set up let us know what you think. 😜

OK I got to play with the TalonP carbine with the modified Texan moderator. I installed the .123 diameter valve from the ring-loc kit. With the power wheel on 10 and a 2600 psi in the bottle I was shooting 25.4 JSBs at 800 to 810. for 36 foot-pounds of energy. Mind you that the .123 transfer port is the smallest in the kit except for the .07 dia. that is there for you to customize. This thing is super easy to mess around with and the ring-loc kit make it so easy to tune it to your liking. Wasn't shooting for shot strings today, just playing around to get it close to what I want.

The main reason for today's play time was to quiet this thing down. Out of the box it was averaging 88db, not being back yard friendly enough for me. My goal is 80db, I did get it down to 83 which is a major improvement. An increase of 3db is twice as loud. I cut/fitted a silicone tube to go between the barrel and the back of the moderator. There is about a half inch gap between the two. (hows that going to work?) I also ended up stuffing the baffles with 2 wraps of scotch bright. I tried two types of foam I had on hand, one being pipe insulation. neither gave me the results I am looking for. Want to get some other materials like acoustic foam, felt and any thing else I can stuff in there to try.

I'll keep ya all posted about the progress. Pics and "how to" will follow when I'm happy with it. The P-Rod project is on hold for now, this TalonP is to much fun.

FYI...I have a el cheapo sound meter but that's what I use, and will use thru ought all my testing.

Ya'all stay healthy. :)

Wow, that's quiet! I like.

Just throwing this out there for reference. Here are some db results I observed on my TalonP using my Amazon $20 db meter. The meter is 5 ft away perpendicular to the muzzle. My house is 10 feet behind which amplifies the sound (I think).

TalonP with no Moderator = 101.3 avg.

with .30 Sumo = 89.3 avg.

with .25 Tatsu = 90.4 avg.

with .25 Tanto = 93.20 avg.

The numbers between the Sumo and Tatsu do not reflect the subjective difference. The sumo seemed much more quiet with a lower "wump" sound vs. the Tatsu with a sharper "wap" report.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing about your continued research.

As proof of concept I fitted a piece of silicone tubing over the barrel, against the barrel bushing and cut it about 1/32 to 1/16 longer than needed so it would seal up against the mounting system for the AF can. 1/2" ID on the tubing. Available from a hobby store. It's used for coupling an exhaust header and pipe on nitro cars and boats. Looks like this...

Worked way better than expected, so I made this.

Completely sealed up, O-ringed to go over the barrel, threaded to fit the AirForce can. Held on with the original set screws in the gun. How did it work you ask? About the same as the tubing, 83db. Have so much more on the table to do on this project. Have to test different materials where I "stuffed" the baffles, make another adapter so my Sumo fits and test that. Hated the wing nut on the shoulder stock so I made something different. Lots better looking but for some reason the pic wont upload. More poop to post later.

hope you are all healthy... :)
