Airforce TalonP/Escape... Lets See Those Shot Strings

Recently got a renewed interest in AirForce guns and picked up a lightly used TalonP. Had planned on putting a larger tank on it (and may one day, who knows?) but pleasantly surprised with the small tank.

It came with a .25 barrel and I threw on an 18 inch .22 barrel I had laying around. My goal was around 800fps using the 25.39gr JSB Monsters. After some inspiration and guidance from @Mike_Lenardon on what what possible on these little guns, the weather broke enough today for me to do a string.

.166 top hat with o ring behind it, 18 inch, .22 barrel, JSB Monsters, 8-1 PW. As you can see, I filled to 2600psi, but should probably only fill to 2200 or so. Still, an impressive string if I do say so myself. Definitely happy with the results. A rough sight in later had me grouping really well out to 40 yards and acceptable at 50. Very well could tighten up those groups. I wasnt even using a rear bag, just a rough sight in.

While at it, had threw together a little 18 inch barrel .177 with a micrometer tank on another Talon and was getting around 600fps with 8.44 gr. I'm not sure if I'll keep that configuration or change it up but I do know the TalonP will not be changed at this point.

So were you getting the 800 you were looking for?
I was dreaming of an 18” barrel for mine.
Never mind I see now.

When you say oring behind the top hat, that’s just the one that is supposed to be there or have you added something else?

I am new tot the AF and trying to learn and much as possible.

With the 12” barrel the .166 is too much air.
I am running the .145 pushing 18s around 900.
With a .100 top hat I am shooting wadcutters a little over 700.

I was hoping the 18” would get 25s closer to 900 than what your testing reviled.

Didn't know you had another AF gun to play with. If you get tired of the .177 the .20 I have is super accurate with the 12" barrel. I love my TalonP, .177 slugger. It easily tosses 16 and 20gn out of a 18" barrel at 900 for a lot of shots.

Struckat, put the .166 office back in and put an oring behind the top hat assembly. 1/4 ID and 3/32 thick. Start with the power wheel at 4 and go from there. Then get the chrony out and do complete shot strings. You'll probably only need a fill pressure of 2600

800fps was Robs target for the monsters. I would say he effing nailed it.

Wow Mike! Thank you very much.
My oring was only 1/16 thick but boy did that make a difference.
The gun was sitting with 2450 or so in it, so I started shooting Baracuda 21gr.

The last two were louder so it fell off the pipe. I’ll pump to 2600 and see what the full string looks like, but this is very promising.

Thank you!

I've toyed off an on over the years about a .177 slugger, but never really did much with it other than to think about it. Had wanted to use the Monsters in this because when I had a Huben, I got a couple sleeves of the monsters and now that the Huben is gone, the monsters have just sat as I prefer to use 18gr JSB's.

I beat my head against the wall trying to get slugs to shoot well out of the 12" barrel. Tried a lot of different manufactures but never 16 or 20 grain. As soon as I put the 18" barrel on things started to work. I may try the 12" again if I get bored.

That's one helluva shot string; no bell curve, just flat...wow
