Since your tank is in a bag you could take a length of corrugated cardboard and wrap two layers on the tank and strapping tape it to hold it tight. In the old days the “old timers” used to varnish or shellac the cardboard boxes to things like Coleman stoves and lanterns to make them last muck longer. You do that too with polyurethane.
GI OD green sleeping mats work good too. The closed cell foam type. About 7/16” thick.
