Target/hunting pistol?

Hey guys im looking for a pistol in 177 or 20 cal to do field target and also to murder squirrels and ideally still powerful enough to kill rabbit as well. 20 yards to 30 yards max range would be exceptable. I am looking into the crosman field target pistol I believe its the 1720? Anyway I would accept a pump, co2 pcp whatever but I need it extremely accurate and more powerful than a 10m. Thanks guys i cant wait to hear your ideas.

Hard to beat the 1720T

1720T is one of the best low dollar investments, particularly when regulated. Next price point would be a used Ranchero- FT and game as large as turkey are within it's power. I shoot a Edgun Velez in .177 for 10 meter, FT and hunting; deadly (" hit what you're aiming at"} but is the next level up for price.

The number of pcp pistols available are not as many as rifles, but there are quite a few great ones out there.

Hope you get one soon , it's quite addicting

Just in case you're open to other brands/models:

I'm extremely new to PCP pistols,
but I was Extremely Impressed with one that I picked up - just to give it a whirl..

SPA / Artemis PP700S-A is the model, and these pistols are absolutely amazing for the price!
I had my fun with it in pistol configuration, and then attached a folding stock and now use it as a 'rifle'.

Mine is extremely accurate in .22 cal, it gets a really good [regulated] shot count, and there's Lots of support for them too!

I've only been target shooting at 10m, but others on here have been using theirs almost Exclusively for pesting..
With theirs, they are using them for ranges between 10 and 30 yards - some even pushing 50. It's crazy..

**For $225.00 I couldn't pass it up

🙂👍

Sam -

PS: There are a bunch of others on here with the PP700s,
and with our new PCP pistol section on here, it'll be easier to track the threads down..
A search will turn up a lot of other threads w/ photos / videos of them, accuracy, etc.

Real quick!
[And I apologize in advance for posting this here]
I just figured I'd ask - since there are a few PCP Pistol users here already..

Have any of you guys used the Kalibrgun Ocelot?

https://www.krale.shop/nl/kalibrgun-ocelot.html

I enjoyed my P700 so much, that I figure I'll definitely upgrade eventually..
Now having a Calibrgun Cricket, and being blown away by the accuracy / quality,
I've had my eye on this pistol for quite some time, but even more so recently..

Too bad there isn't someone with such VAST air pistol experience as to have written a book with information about every air pistol mentioned so far in this thread except the Webley Alecto (that I don't believe would serve well for FT). OH WAIT... there is!

MoF, as I recall the dude has a lot of pistol field-target titles, and even claims to have FOUNDED PFT! He also does a lot of hunting with air pistols. Come to think of it, I've seen him advertise a new air pistols book on this forum not too long ago.

Sounds like he's either the most widely experienced air pistol shooter on Earth, or the biggest BRAGGART! I think the book was called something like Air Pistols Are Awesome, or something like that. Maybe if you do a forum search for "awesome air pistols book", you might find some information on it.

My copy of Awesome Air Pistols spends more time lately in the hands of friends that are interested in air gunning than in my shop. It's a great read and deserves/requires several reads. Good reference material. BTW....he ain't no braggart !!! Also....I love my 1701P....great balance and with a red dot it is a more accurate pistol than I am a shooter....just saying !!

Thanks for locating the information on that book Sam, and nice to meet you also. I knew it was titled something like Air Pistols Are Awesome.

As I recall the guy raves about what an incredible FT pistol the 1720T is, especially for the price; even going so far as to declare it the ONLY sane choice for less than $1000. He claims his 1720T consistently averages sub- 3/4" five-shot groups at 50 yards... RIIIIIGHT!

Think I also recall a whole, LONG-ASS chapter comparing the ($1,000) Kalibrgun Ocelot to the ($250) PP700/Air Max Precision; WTF is that all about? The dude must be totally off his rocker!

Mark, you actually exposed friends to this guy's madness? Are they still friends? Come to think of it, I think the dude also raves as much about the Crosman 1701P as he does the 1720T (for shooters wanting a more general purpose air pistol). Sounds like you're real happy with your's Mark. How did you decide on a 1701P, and a red-dot sight? BTW, is that 2250 still holding pressure?

. i'm not big on pistols mostly because i cant really see a pellet hole out past 12 yards , but a friend had an extra $5K to spend before christmas . he told me he wanted the baddest and the best, so we just ordered everything from a of a . .177 ranchero , .25 daystate redwolf or one like that + all the scopes, noise devices, and tanks, hoses... i tell him about hw44 pistols all the time when i see them listed where used airguns sell. he loves pistols. if i could afford one of those, that's probably the kit with suppressor and optics i'd go with. i'd go with the .22 , but they mention the .177 for field target. i just wish i had known about these before letting my buddy order the more expensive, less powerful fx ranchero. here's a link to an article about the hw44 . - paul https://hardairmagazine.com/reviews/weihrauch-hw44-air-pistol-test-review-22-caliber/
