Target ideas

Between the foot of snow and the freezing temperatures I haven't been able to feed my addiction. I figured while I wait for the thaw I could build some more targets. My current holder is at sixty yards so I'm thinking of making a couple more for other yardages to practice my holdover. Maybe some playing card holders, golf tees to put cheeseballs on, dueling tree... I bought some targets you can play battleship on and am looking forward to having some family competition. So basically I'm looking for any ideas or pictures of fun targets you have either made or bought. Also any competitive games to play against each other.

I like using the tiny "tree" screw in spinners. 1/4" up at varying distances. Most of mine i mount onto 2x6 stands and can just drop them wherever I want. Some are attached into more permanent solutions.
Target Forge makes some good ones. Paul Porch makes these in varying sizes and power levels and they are very stout. I do have a few sets of the cheap yellow ones from ebay, they work fine, just not as challenging.

Pretty basic! I'm terrible about saving scraps because I might use them someday.

I like the fun paper games. You don’t need buy them, but you can make them and some sites have them for free. Take that battleship example, I made my own and printed them. I made a golf version too a few years ago for a local 22LR competition. There is a paper targets thread here that will have some good samples for you to choose from.

Here is the battleship and golf ones I made. Also a fun darts game you can play like darts.

Love these exactly the same. Have some cheap Chinese yellow eBay ones that really take a beating and have been destroyed. Have some from Target Forge that are nice. Also got a collection from Paul Porch last year that are very heavy duty.

Yes i almost forget my Paul Porch ones. I also use his auto reset targets. Got 1/2" and 1" and they are with my tiny 1/4" and 3/8" spinners.seen here. Then 2 1” and a 2” hanging gong along with a spot on the bottom I put a small box filled with rubber mulch for paper. Put thick rubber behind all targets to deaden the thump of wood if I miss and help prolong it. Has worked awesome!

Want to share 2 owsome ideas i sow from the Czech guys from Altaros slugs.

First is home range where they use some self heal rubberized tatget that dosnt make any noise and is attached on a rope in a wooden toools shed. So if you have some visitors just close the wooden doors and done looking back normal absolutley no noise if you miss on the back he use some spongy fabric or sand that retain the slug for later reuse in a press.

2nd target is something you can leave abondoned outside in the forest or some field without draging too much attention but is again a soft target for long range. Doesn't make noise and you can reuse your ammo which in his case is .223 a rear caliber for airgun but long projectile and heavy with 1:9 twist rate barrel. It is basically a brown/greay cammo blanket over a 2 metal rods welded in a triangle shape and on the top of the triangle a small tiny chain or metal rope attached to another bar satand dug into the ground if used with only one bar or make legs. So when he hit it it roatates for hit indication but doesnt make noise to attract neighbours with the dinging sound a 1km away and is having similar colour like the surounding dust.

I have a bunch of spoons of different sizes with the handles bent around 3in screws and screwed into the sides of a tree or piece of 2x4. Set them out at whatever distance you want. I also have 10 spoons hung between two trees with a piece of wire spaced with a short piece of pvc between them. Love the ting and the way they spin. Mark

Here's a couple of our battleship targets. I'm going to move them out a little farther for a little better competition next time.

Nice. Battle ship can be fun. Definitely back that up some, way too many hits! That being said, we would just limit the shots to 20, instead of trying to sink the whole armada.

I build little animals from never hardering plasticine often. If you form them hollow, you can fill them with red colored liquid or put a little bag with liquid inside them. Try to build a rat sized model for example, you can resuse the plasticine every time after destroying it. Put the liquid in a fingerpiece of a rubber glove, tight it and put this inside the plasticine rat and then close it.

Its been the biggest fun then this got hit and all the parts and the red liquid shatters around inside your scopeview, especially with pellets like hades or barracuda hunter which tends to expand relatively good.

I'm actually planing about building an robot/animatronic target which moves freely, which i can let run in my yard and give it a critical hit when ever i want.

Thinking about doing this on a house cleaning robot base.

I also shoot little things like firematches which i mount on moving hex bots on my 12 yards indoor range.

I seen this last week and already fought about how to armor it in a way that i can shot it without destroying it.

Maybe i should only armor the body and 3d print the legs so that i can shoot this robots legs off so that it drops and then i replace the legs with cheap pla 3d printable legs.

look up KYL target , easy to make and for airguns you can use Lowes 1/2 inch wide steel and SS washers to shoot at .

The best targets are free targets. anything you see lying on the side of the road or in a trash can. old spoons pots pans circular saw blades you get the idea..things that will last a good while without making a big mess..bend them ,wrap them around a piece of wire ,nail them to a board .so many possibilities,

I hang pill bottles since I have a good supply these days.
I prefer them primarily for the lower powered open sights guns, because they're a pretty easy target for a scoped gun, and the lower velocity hits ring them like a cowbell.
They do make a good target for a scoped gun when they're swinging. 👍
