Target practice, rats/mice .... Wich PCP? ( legal options only in .177)

Hi everyone.
Am a newb to this forum, but not new to the useage of air/firearms.
Living here in Denmark prohibits by law that people can own/shoot ANY airguns that are using a caliber bigger than the 4.5mm/ .177
So if someone owns a .22 or bigger cal airgun, then the gun is considered illegal and one will be fined and/or even have the risk of going to jail if the police should come around for some matter, and not having a valid hunting/weapons certificate (people here have to go to "hunting school" to achieve such a license which is a good thing in my opinion as it also works as a limit for people just randomly buying guns.

My interest lays within plinking, shooting targets on a range between 50-100 metres, and also "offing rats/mice" in our stables/barn and riding arena, and I´ve had multiple various spring-piston powered airguns that have been doing the job really good, although, trying to get them rats with a spring powered air rifle doesn´t give the chance to get of multiple shots quickly without risking that the critters get scared off, and one has to wait a while before the appear again, so therefore I´ve used air-rifles such as the Diana 54, and Hatsan 125 (.177) for shooting at a far distance, but the Diana was best at being benched, which limits a lot where I could hide and await the rats to appear, and the Hatsan simply begun to fall apart after shooting the first 100 pellets, and also ruined 2 finde scopes as well, because of the excessive recoil.
But recently I had a friend come visit who has purchased a pcp pistol at a local hardwarestore (maxRanger was the brand name) And by searching online I found out that the maxRanger pcp guns are similar to various Artemis/Snowpeak models (even the Diana Stormrider has similarities), although if reading the specs on the various models, they might look alike, same size air-reservoirs/pressure etc, but pellet speeds don´t match whatsoever.
And then I had my farrier come by yesterday to shoe some horses, and he´s an hunting enthusiast, who goes on hunting trips to various other contrys, and he told me he has a Hatsan pcp, also for offing rats/mice/crows/pidgeons, and it was really quiet when being shot, but of course, he´s also got hunting license and everything in order, so his pcp packs quite a lot of power and shoots much bigger pellets than the .177cal.

So I spent the rest of the day to look around online to find suitable .177cals and came across the Benjamin Marauder, Benjamin Discovery, Gamo Coyote Whisper, Air Venturi Avenger, as pcp rifles that might be within a reasonable price range, but still be "packing a punch" and durability, accuracy, to be able to enjoy the long range plinking, and also offing them rats/mice if needed.

But again, as a newb within the PCP world, I thought I´d hear peoples opinions about the various models that I have looked at .... Are there "do´s and donts" considering the brands/models?
Also, I´ve had surgery some years ago in my arm, so any PCP airrifle in the same weight-league as the Diana 54, is a big NO for me.

Best regards.

The Diana 54 is a side lever, spring piston air rifle, and is really heavy, and was definitely best for benched shooting.

The reason I had the Gamo Coyote Whisper in mind is that if bought without any modifications, it packs quite a punch, even with the .177 pellets, and supposedly has a velocity around 1100fps with a "regular pellet" and higher with the alloys, AND, it's not a super expensive PCP rifle.

A nearby hardware store sells some PCP guns, whereas the rifle is similar to the Artemis/Snowpeak M25, and they are dirt cheap.

Ufortunately the store doesn't really have any specs on the rifles, but I've been thinking about buying one just because they are so cheap for a complete set, with a rifle, scope, pump and even a tin of pellets 😁

I can't speak to the .177 version of the marauder, but by .22 benjamin marauder FT can shoot 2-3in groups at 100yd all day. I would think that this would translate over to the .177 as well, but can't promise anything. If quietness is what your looking for the marauder is also a great choice, as along with a DonnyFL can my impacts on target are much more noticeable to me than the shot itself, even though I'm the one shooting.

Very few 177’s shoot well over 1000 fps.
the sweet spot will likely be 800 -950.
I’ve tested many .177’s over the years and the best all around long range pellet and best bc I’ve found is the jsb 10.3. It’s accurate for starlings out to 100 yards at 930 fps in an fx Royale.
there are some new and amazing slugs that I keep hearing about… which would significantly extend your range.

The Uragun .177 would likely be a my choice... I have one in .22 and .25 and they are amazing with pellets and slugs… right out of the box. If you need to spend less… the bsa pcp’s are very accurate and affordable

Hi fella, Welcome...I'm a .177 long range shooter from the uk...One of the .177 I own is the Fx Wild cat...Great around the farm and my PB with it is a Pheasant head shot out at 91 yards with jsb 10.3...As hearkens mentioned above. Great long range pellet along with Air arms 8.4's....I am down the low power slug road at the moment...Testing ZAN slugs .22 .25 Pro Hunter .177's 10.5 -13 and 15 grain. Wildman 13 grain Fx .22 and .25...And this evening I've been testing my own 34 and 40 grain various base designs with some long range Rat practice out at 132 yards....I did a .22 16 grain zero at 55 yards then loaded up the ZAN 23 grains.....The ZAN POI was 24" above the 16 grain.....The zero for the ZAN without any turret change was 127 yards! Incredible the difference in BC....You must try them!

I will definitely try the Zane’s. I got some at EBR.
The H&N .22 21 grain.217 are simply amazing out of my stock Uragun at 840 fps out to 200 yards

this is a Utah ground squirrel ( similar size if not smaller than a rat) at 191 yards… my truck in the background.

180 yards I think… and lots 130-150. All shots in real wind.

Yeah real cool stuff! This is a Zan group at the 127 yards to make sure it's so...

Mice are my main game, I think any of the modern options in the $300 and above price range will do the job nicely. Dont discount a pistol either. I think when it comes to mice your optic is probably more important then the gun once you hit that price range. If you want to shoot mice get good glass, or they can sit right in front of you and you will never see them until they move.
