Target Size

Hey guys,

I wanted to know what is a common kill zone size @ 75 and @ 100 yards. I need to make a practice steel target for those distances.

3 inches is what Ben's been using for the 100 yard targets at the PHX XFT matches.

I'd have to dig through old match reports but I think even the 75 yard targets have often been 3 inches lately. But for practice, if you can consistently put it into a 2 inch kz @ 75 yards you should be in good shape for XFT matches.

The photos below are of two targets used at Ranchito Robinson for Textreme Field Target. The Coyote is at 97 yards and the elk is at 99. The kill zones are 3" wide and 3.5" tall. The only target on that course that is in the 75 yard area is a prairie dog with a 2" kill zone (sorry no photo).

Try using the lid from a 500 count pellet tin. If I can keep my long distance shots within that diameter I'm OK with it.

Crosman tin 3" snuff can lid 2-1/2"

I paint them black and stick to white backing paper/ cardboard. Just right and easy to see shooting irons that far for me

Thanks for the reply's. They have given me a idea to try. For a quicky type target.

Try canned food lids, I would say soup cans but most of those are pull tab tops these days. The center of the lid is 1/34 and you can paint them and mount them to almost anything.

I cut and hang tin cans like so. that the lid is hinged on the can

Shoot the lid only as like a tin can head shot. After the first hit the can is swaying and spinning to make a more challenging 2ed shot and so on.
