Results Team Centercut takes 1st and 3rd at RMAC "Magnum Slug" Challenge

Team Centercut shooter Dave Wilson takes FIRST PLACE in the Slug Challenge - Magnum at the Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge 2022 in Springville Utah.
Dave shot Scott Hull’s .257 “FrankenGun” and a perfect score of 250 points for a clean sweep. Way to go Dave!!!! Also, Scott took Third Place with the same gun.

Scott’s highly modified Benjamin Armada shot INCREDIBLE at the Magnum Slug Challenge. Three of us shot the gun in heats 1, 2, and 3.
I was heat 1 with 3 misses, Scott heat 2 with 2 misses, and Dave a perfect round (heat 3) with zero misses. The gun has a 36 inch TJ .257 barrel, and was shooting 71 grain cast slugs at 988 FPS for 154 FPE. Second place was a very good performance by PRS Champion Boyd Linder, with only 1 miss. (middle).

Before the match, we were told by more than one long time Magnum Big Bore shooter that this wasn't "Big Bore" and that this was "Baby Bore". Looks like the baby bore taught those big bores a thing or two... ;)

My purpose-built .257 airgun has proven to be very capable. But it was serendipity that Dave Wilson ended up shooting it for the win. After the 2021 RMAC match, Mike Bricker and I had planned to team up again and shoot two relays for this year's slug match. With three available relays, I asked Dave Wilson if he wanted to do the same. For Dave's relay, he would shoot and I would spot. Dave was able to get in as a late entry when another competitor dropped out.

I knew if there were no mistakes made, and with some luck on our side, we had a chance of getting in a perfect score for the first time at an RMAC Slug Challenge. Mike had it the toughest as the winds were worse early on. Conditions were a little better for me. I thought we both shot well but neither one of us were clean. Conditions improved a little more by the time Dave's relay was up. Dave seemed nervous for his first big bore match but he was rock solid when he got on target. No mistakes and he broke every shot perfectly. I was both proud of my gun and proud of Dave. While I was happy with my third place performance (thank you Mike for spotting for me), Mike and I were both thrilled with Dave's win.

Yes indeed that Rifle Scott Hull has designed and assembled is quite the machine !! While we read ARMADA based, lets just say perhaps in Skeleton having the heart, lungs and sole of some Bionic beast from a Sci-Fi movie ... Lol

Having shot this rifle myself can indeed say the gear / tool for the job is very sound !! The Shooter however is the weak link and in this instance ALL 3 performed there best in what was some darn difficult conditions ... great job gentlemen !!!!!

Dave, you were cool under pressure. Scott finding that cinder block to the left of lane 1 was lucky and allowed you to shoot at the 267 yard target without dropping the butt of the gun off the bench to get the proper (high, 13 degree) elevation. Serendipitous describes your win perfectly...
Scott and I were jumping around and high fiving like little kids when you made that last shot to clean the course!!! And then we chuckled when you turned around and asked "which target is next?", not realizing you went 20/20. The entire Team is proud of you Dave. 😊
