Tuning Teflon Tape

Both my hand pump and compressor advised putting teflon tape on the threads of the adapter in addition to the o-rings already on there.

My Brocock regulator has a minor known issue with developing small leaks with the o-ring which I have replaced twice and it looks like I'll be replacing an o-ring for the third time in two months while I wait for the upgraded rings from AOA.

This got me thinking, what detriment would there be to adding some teflon tape to the threads of the regulator? Of course I'd be careful to not cover anything that shouldn't be covered, but maybe that would be an added layer of sealing to the troublesome regulator.

Yeah, my prod started not holding air, so I removed the gauge, wrapped in t-tape and put it back - and it still leaked. So I sent it off to to my Maurader guy (Roy Weid) and he fixed it. Told me that Crosman no longer used a tapered threaded gauge (t-tape wouldn't work on it), now it was straight in, with a o-ring.

I had no clue they'd changed it.

If anyone knows where to find PTFE tape that is 3/8” to 1/2” wide, black, and 10mil in thickness, that is THE best tape to use for sealing up those pesky leaks that an o ring won’t, n the HPA applications. I’ve searched all over, but cannot find it by the role, only in small 48” amounts.

Is this the correct stuff? I recall finding it sold under the same name in short lengths and then found the full roll of it.

Out of stock at that dealer but maybe it can be found elsewhere.

I've never used this dealer so buyer beware if it comes back in stock.

[EDIT] Sorry, only 3/16" wide.
