Temp changing POI (Hunting)

@Ezana4CE I understand 100% and agree. What would your suggestion be on how often to check dope and verify things? I feel sometimes I get in the habit of trying too hard and realize I am doing nothing but clicking my scope what seems to be non-stop trying to be more accurate. Any suggestion on how to avoid this and simply double check?
@Poke-E Take time to shoot 1-3 shots at a target before going out. Then top off your reservoir again before leaving. The target can be a simple dot with an "x" through it on a piece of paper or cardboard. Preferably just before leaving to go to your hunting spot. If the shots are on, then you're good to go. The more I do this, I have more confidence in my data. I have gone out not doing this, missed my shot, and wondered why until I referenced my DOPE. When I did this I saw that in the weather conditions on that day I should have held differently. That was on me. Thankfully my lack of preparation resulted in a clean miss. I have had days where I went to validate my DOPE and my shots were all over the place. I don't go out on days like that or I take a different gun.

First shot plenum pressure varies with rifle temperature.

As rifle temp drops Plenum pressure drops, then one of two results will occur:

a. Pressure drops enough to open the regulator and raise the Plenum pressure back to set point.

b. Plenum pressure drops and remains at the lower level because the regulator didn't respond.

Worst case is "a." above, as the rifle heats up the Plenum pressure will increase above setpoint and dwell time may decrease.

I have hold over/hold under data for first shot Plenum pressure variations over rifle temperatures from 63°F to 19°F.

As rifle temperature decreases the regulator( plenum pressure) reset time increases. At 19 °F the regulator reset time for my rifle is 65 seconds.

If my first shot plenum pressure is above setpoint, it may take up to 3 shots to lower plenum pressure to setpoint.

Today the rifle started at 23°F and is now 64°F with first shot plenum pressure an indicator needle's width above set point.

I target shoot, as such 1st shot velocity is correctable by hold and I did not record FPE differences due to rifle temperature changes.

@Poke-E Is your Texan regulated? I'm asking because I don't know anything about the African Air Ordinance upgrade.

@Ezana4CE my Texan is not regulated. The AAO kit is a power tune kit that allows you to shoot at 4500 with a larger more powerful valve, heavier spring, and longer hammer. You actually make your power adjustments by adjusting the top hat. It is threaded and will screw up and down to allow more or less pressure.

I believe they are as well but how accurate? And what distance is acceptable for accuracy? To me a canon like that as long as it’s minute of deer at 50 I’m good. I own a Condor and Talon p. As long as they’re minute of ground squirrel at 25 they’re good For my needs. Guess it’s what you expect
I honestly would have no worries shooting a deer at 100yds with a stock Texan!! My 10 year old daughter can hit a 4-in gong target at 100 yd and she does not even really shoot. It's that accurate and powerful. I just installed the update kit and have not really had a chance to shoot and tune, but I am expecting it is everything that I think it is...

I would have no worries shooting a deer at a hundred yards with a stock Texan. My 10-year-old daughter can shoot a 4-in gong target at 100 yards all day long with my Texan and she does not even shoot much. This was shot at 50 yards with three different types of ammo.

@Poke-E would you happen to have the pellet velocity/air pressure curve for your rifle?

The range I am interested in is 4500 psig to 3600 psig to 2200 psig.

If so, please DM me with the data.

Thanks!

Troy.

I do not have that information yet. I had to send my rifle to the machine shop to get some of the loading tray cut down so the larger valve would fit. When I got it back from the machine shop and was planning to get that data the third shot I took the top hat cracked. I ordered another one and just got it in the mail yesterday. I am planning on trying to do some shooting this weekend and if I get that data I will DM you with it.

Thank you for your time and effort, and apparently some expense!
