Testing 18” LW barrel and Doug Noble valve in AF frame

I have a couple of Air Force frames with TJ barrels and Doug Noble mechanism and 4500 psi tank. For fun I tried putting one of these valves on my .25 Talon P along with an 18” barrel. Nice compact carbine.

At the lowest power wheel settings I fired 16 rounds from 3400 psi down to 2600, I had a string of 14 useful shots all around 78 fpe. I was shooting 36 grain h and n slugs at around 900-1032 fps (was slightly messing with preload because I had to add just a tad to at 3400 psi but had to dial down to zero as pressure dropped and valve became easier to open).

Next up, heavier projectiles and a little more spring preload….

Results: 50 grain bbt slugs PW on 6, 3800 psi fill

It took 4 or 5 shots to figure out how much spring load to add. I then fired 11 shots power wheel at about six. Averaged 929 fps or 96 fpe. Peak in this string was 102 fpe, min. was 84 fpe.

102 fpe out of a “talon P” is not bad. I put that ”” because it’s not really a talon p at this point other than the frame.
