Testing Slugs with FX Impact - PELLET & SLUG different liners and Barrels

I finally made an extension to try the 700mm liner in my 600mm barrel, and while not pretty, it seems like it should be functional. Unfortunately, I discovered a potential problem with the idea. After assembling everything, I remembered that I hadn't cleaned the new 700mm liner, so I unscrewed the shroud, and found that the extension came unscrewed from the barrel, and stayed inside the shroud. I can't see an easy way to get to it, so I put some blue threadlock on the barrel threads, and screwed it all back together. With any luck, tomorrow the extension will stay on the barrel when I remove the shroud. We'll see.

Hey Rusty, been there done that. It really happens for not screw tight the double threaded part or loctite the extension. Anyway did the same than you and works. Is explained in one of my threads.

Good to hear. I just didn't think it through when I originally assembled it. I'll make another attempt at the extension at some point, to see if I can get one just a little straighter. BTW, your drawing helped a lot. Thanks.

Edosan Love the idea of the extension also. I thought if you have no intention of going back to the 600mm barrel you could make up a 700mm tube and replace the original with it. So you have no joint You would still only need to tread it either end. If your swapping occasionally then it’s a no go
Thought I’d give that a go and for a different look I’d try it in stainless Found this tube on ebay 14mm od 2mm thick It is thicker and heavier than the original but that may have some advantages I’ll post some pictures when it’s finished

@13brv3 glad it helped! it can be improved for sure, using steel help for making the id wider. That will make the liner float, with the extension I made the liner is slightly touching the right wall making shooting to the left, windage compensation make it ok, but better is if not touching anything.

Yep that is a good choice too! for us that know how that goes is easy, but use heat and unscrew the lower part is something that might be complicated for most. Easier is just to remove the shroud and add the extension, loctite and done, more "plug and play". Totally agree with you tho, replacing the whole barrel sleeve/tube is a better choice, and is cheap too.
Last week I went second in the second date of Chile National BenchRest on 50m and 75m (yes 2 podiums), point is, in 50m I use my old X with the extension! (crappy extension! make me come second... LoL
) probably using your idea I would come 1st! (seriously what I meant is the extension work like it suppose )

Sadly, my extension is still stuck. I put more blue thread lock on it early this morning, and that didn't hold. I put even more on it now, and I'll try it again tomorrow. After that, I guess I'll have to use red thread lock, or maybe epoxy. If I ever get this thing off, and if I make any others, I will cut a screwdriver slot in the barrel end of the extension so I can stick a screwdriver in there and unscrew it if it ever gets stuck again.

Do not remember the one I use, but it was impossible to hand unscrew...after that I torch it and easy unscrew, not a problem.

OK, so the 3rd try with thread lock was successful, and I'll be careful not to screw the shroud on very tight until I take the extension off and cut a screwdriver slot. I went ahead and put the 700mm liner in, and did a very brief test with NSA 30gr .217 slugs, and JSB 25.36 monster redesigned pellets. At first glance (without trying any different settings), I can't see any significant improvement over the 600mm liner results. I'm getting about an inch groups at 70 yds. It was interesting to note that the JSB was nearly all left to right, where the NSA slugs were spread evenly up/down and left/right. There was some wind, but not much. I didn't have time to chrono them, but I'm sure they're flying a bit faster.
Now a sanity check request. If you have a 600mm barrel with the stock FX suppressor, can you measure the suppressor for me? I swear I remember taking off one or two sections of this to make it fit the case, but now I can't find any extra sections. Mine is 125mm, made up of 3 segments. The center part is about 75mm, and the end caps are 25mm each. I'm nearly certain there was one or two more sections, but I can't imagine where they would be hiding.

Sorry to respond to an old post, but I can vouch for groups like the one's Edosan has gotten with the pellet liner as shown in your picture. I tested the 22.5 VKs when DRig brought them out. I have had nothing but success with those from the pellet liner. The pellet liner for me is much more accurate shooting thr lighter slugs than the slug liner. My slug liner is 1:15.5 twist. Too fast for the 22.5 grain. Twist rate for lighter slugs performed better with a slower twist rate. With the slug liner, my shots you'd see drift right with no wind, which I attributed this to the twist rate. The pellet liner on the other hand had a nice vertical trajectory downrange. In .22 cal, I'll be using heavier slugs with the slug liner. Lighter one's I'll stick with the pellet liner.

@edosan thanks for the kind words on the rig. She's my baby haha...I can shoot the vk 22.5s at 1046fps with es of 4. At 50 yds I get 1/4 to 3/8" groups and sub moa at 100 yards when I tune it down to 985fps. Varmint Knocker are pure lead and get through thr choke a lot easier in my opinion and I prefer pure lead anyway so I lucked out .

Quick test I just made with 700mm pellet liner a / nsa slugs
75m / 83 yards, pellet liner A 700mm, 850fps, stock impact x (tp elongated and c3 bumper delrin) shooting nsa 23gn .218 the wide of my thumb nail is 1/2 inch.
That is BlackMamba tuned for 18.2 jsb @ 1000 fps. Not even tuned for those slugs, just put those in the mag and shoot! It can be much better
Those are old NSA, new ones are better and coming this way. I will make more tests soon.

Indexing your x slug barrel is quite a important for a long distance precision. I do it also for my crossbow arrows.

Can You test 500mm slag liner ?? No one test impact compact with slags. I want to buy 500mm impact to shoot from car but not know if slugs will have proper velocity.
