Tethering tank to rifle...

I am getting my PCP rifle today, including a hand pump. However, I am thinking about getting a carbon fiber tank from AoA and hooking that up for bench shooting. That said, how do I do it though? Is there a special valve I need or do I just hook up the tank?

Depending on your gun you will either have to fill your tank ONLY
to the gun's max pressure value

OR buy an expensive regulator so you can set the tank output to match your gun's max.

Hook a full 4500 psi tank to a 3K gun direct and bad things happen.

I use a 90 cubic inch tank with a built in 3000 psi regulator for tethering.

It's the $495 one. This is the text but you are going to want to fittings on either side to be setup for your application.

I bought one. Not so much for tethering but more for having exact control over how much pressure is added to the gun cylinders.

I see... what a rip-off though! It never ever takes that much to manufacture one of those! Anyhow, nothing I can do about it...

The external inline regulator is too pricy for me to justify buying. I have both regulated and unregulated guns. When shooting from the tank I just leave the foster or fill probe fitting connected to my gun with a longer hose. When the pressure goes low I open the valve and close it as needed. This simulated how the gun will really act off it's own power and don't need to move it while refilling.

Wow, I never even thought about that! That is a great idea! So instead of having a tank connected to your gun via a regulator, to give you "unlimited" air, you have just a tank connected, without a regulator, and simply open the valve for a few seconds to fill up the gun again. Right? For guns that give you a somewhat high shot count (50 - 70), I really do not see the advantage of using a regulator. Unless of course you are shooting a lot of pellets, really fast, and you are really lazy. : )

That said. I would do that in a heartbeat, but I am thinking about doing that to a FX Indy. The Indy's thank only holds 6 - 10 shots, so I would have to open the valve way more often than other, thus, making the whole tethering thing without the use of a regulator a pain in the ass. I guess.

On a well regulated gun you could slowly refill when you get to the regulators cut off like the above.

On a unregulated gun, there is usually a umbrella / rainbow curve where velocity goes up from initial fill, then starts dropping back down to initial fill (the effect of the striker valve vs tank pressure) On a non regulated gun, you'd get more consistent results by filling the external tank to the guns tank pressure then tethering. This would give you much more consistent shot to shot variances and a much longer curve.

The purpose of a regulator on a gun is to minimize the effect of the 'firing valve' seeing the varing gun tank pressure (getting rid of the umbrella / rainbow curve). Extreme spread can go from 20+fps to under 5 fps. At distance, that translates into POI changes.
