I like to share my my newest gun to my arsenal. I am very pleased with my new gun and wish to share my modifications and experience with this gun because it turned out perfect for me.
First, I always wanted a gun that was able to quietly shoot coyote at long distance in all seasons, specially winter. My experience with most regulators, I don't trust them in 20 degree weather.
So, therefore, I had set a goal of an unregulated gun, that can shoot like a regulated gun, but still be a bigbore. It seemed pretty impossible, but I gave it a try...
First, I found a 1.1 Liter bottle for $180. As soon as I got it, I noticed it did not fit in the gun. The treads were the same, but the carbon fiber made the bottle thicker, so I had to gently trim the gun to make it fit. Nerve-racking to cut, but it fit.
Second, was the wood stock. I always pictured it with a stock but only problem was that nobody makes them, and I was NOT going to even attempt that myself. Luckily, Doug Russel (Maddog Stocks) made exactly what I wanted. Only issue was the shoulders of my bottle were a little different shapped than the standard ones. So, I trimmed the stock down in that area. Then put the stock on and tightened it down hard. This I immediately noticed a very positive consequence to the stock not fitting perfect.
When I shot the gun before I put the stock on, I noticed cheek weld and pressure made a difference in the shot POI, but after the stock was put on, ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE!
Third, in order to get the extremely flat count I always wanted, I tuned the gun down from 200+fpe to 158fpe. Wow, I got more shots and more accuracy that I expected. I got 7-9 shots under a 20fps spread and only fill the gun to 170 bar! It made great used of my air supply. Plus, it is very pleasant to shoot.
I knew I liked the gun but was nervous about bring it to EBR. I did not think a 158 fpe (150fpe is the lower limit) bigbore would hold up to the 400-700fpe guns there. But it did! Even if I did not get credit for two of the targets, it still placed 3rd!
