thank you, I guess I misunderstood, I was looking for the comparison between the Texan 30 & 357 so that's why I couldn't find ithttps://www.airgunnation.com/thread...itable-for-deer-hunting.1308291/#post-1696393
that should take you there.
thank you for the explanation.. it's very thorough..so basically as far as fps they will be similar but more energy and air expended the larger the bore?@markhooper generally speaking most airgun models will shoot within 100-200fps or so of each consecutive caliber increase. There is often a substantial weight increase for each jump in caliber. And there is pretty much always a jump in power associated. Power isn't free. Takes power to make power. Larger valving/ports hammer changes. But also part of the equation is the Larger bore. A larger bore area makes a big difference. This is why longer barrels produce more power for one given caliber. Although there are some cases where this does not happen. Air is relatively low pressure compared to powder guns. So, it is more about volume and leverage. More bore capacity allows expending air more leverage to do its thing. So, most guns, if the projectile weight and barrel length is equal, will shoot faster with a larger bore. But larger caliber guns are usually tuned and modified to output more air volume to drive the heavier projectiles associated with the caliber increase. This is not always the case, but with high power hunting guns, it really should be.
so I was under the impression that you can't shoot copper jacket bullets in a air gun.. even the Texan says pure lead.. did I miss something?those alco bullets look sweet brass or copper? im liking the 150 gr... and how can you not speak about 357 when your name is 357 haha jk
so I think 25 caliber is right on the edge for single loading.. likely to loose some in the field.. I'm thinking anything smaller than 30 caliber is going to have to have a magazine fed..For long range and varmints I'd go with .257, but not sure if they'd run .25 pellets like the .308 would run .30. Could always go .25 if they offer that.... as for brass or copper, I'm pretty sure solid brass or copper would be fine, but might want to do some homework on that.
Dallas@markhooper I'd be willing to bet 45 recoil out of an airgun is pretty tame. Especially with a moderator.
Personally, i have no current use for a big bore. I dont even shoot my .30. Ive got a .308 and 45-70 I'll shoot, but those arent airguns.
If I had the space to shoot, space to set up casting, and a real good supply of air, I guarantee I'd have some rather large big bores. At least a .50.
I had not seen the 308 long shot. Maybe I'm just an ass, but I'm not much impressed by guys walking shots. I feel like a very good number of members here could do the same if they had the gun, ammo, air, assistance, range, and time. There is a chance I'm being ignorant.
Oh no, don't say the h wordplease. My mk1 crown does pellets and slugs just fine. Hammer and port adjustment knobs so you get a lot of range of adjustment. My 500mm barrel will send 25gr .22 slugs at 950fps. The 500 is also meant to shoot pellets too. But I still almost exclusively shoot pellets thru the 380mm barrel. Have taken squirrel with headshots as far as 70-75 yards with no issue using 16gr pellets. About as far as I'm comfortable using pellets in almost 0 wind conditions btw. Usually I get them closer like 30-50 yards.
