Rules for TFT’s July 15th evening Members Match

The July TFT Match Course will be a 39 shot match consisting of 6 lanes with 2 targets on each lane. 3 shots will be taken per target. A seventh lane will be shot “Schuetzen Verein” style - a single 100 yd target, 3 shots from standing position, bipod allowed. Targets will be shot near to far with a time limit of 5 min per lane. Targets will be from 25 yds to 115 yds with KZ sizes from 3/4” to 3”.

This is a timed match with a 5 min limit for each lane. All shooters at the line will commence firing at the timer start and will cease fire after 5 min. Shooters may not look through their scopes until the timer has started. Scorers are encouraged to reset the targets for the shooter.

Scoring
Scores will be marked with an X or a 0 indicating a hit or a miss. Scores will be totaled with the highest score being the winner. Ties will be determined by a shoot-off. Scores will also be calculated for consistency. Additional prizes will be awarded for the most consistent shooter. A final score of zero will be discarded for the consistency prize.

Equipment
Power is limited to 100 ft/lb maximum, .30 caliber maximum and a chronograph may be used. Commercially produced and publicly available diabolo shaped lead pellets only. No slugs, hybrids, tipped (polymag et al) or cast pellets. Ammo must be from original packaging but may be staged in magazines or holders at the match. No off site loaded magazine allowed. All rifle adjustments during the match are prohibited, including battery replacement for electronic rifles. Sling adjustment is allowed.
Unattached bipods/sticks are allowed in any position except for prone. Saddle types (flat bottom) and yokes with more than 1.5” in width are not allowed. Bipods must fall freely when the muzzle is raised. Biopod/sticks’ legs or feet may not be braced against any support or body part but may be held with the hands. Example: a shooter may not brace the legs of the bipod against his or her feet, legs or knees but can grasp the bipod during shooting with their other hand. Feet may not be driven in the ground.
Slings are allowed in all positions to support the shooter only but must be two-point and connect at the fore and buttstock of the rifle. A Sling must not prevent a bipod or sticks from falling freely when the rifle's muzzle is raised.
Shooters may use a single seat without arm or back rest and not to exceed 15” in height. Bum bags are allowed.
Knee pads are allowed but must not exceed 1” in uncompressed thickness.
Maximum scope magnification setting is 24x or the closest factory marking but not to exceed 24x. Clicking is not allowed. Distances and KZ sizes will be provided. Wind flags will be downrange at various places.
Maximum for depth is 6” measured from bore to lowest point.
Rangefinders and Aneometers are allowed.
No shooting jackets, harnesses or other movement restricting clothing, apparel or attachments restricting movement is allowed. Adjustable buthooks may not exceed 30 degrees.
Targets may not be contested for not falling but should be noted. In the event of a target consistently malfunctioning throughout the match the target will be discarded and all scores will be removed for that target. Targets that do not reset or fall after reset should be brought to the MD’s attention before the next shooting round starts.

Tried this today on last stage of a PRS/NRL match today . Targets were at 62 ,103 ,and 159. Shooting near to far then change location, then near to far again.
2 minute time limit , 3 location, 3 shots per location . I had been sucking pretty much all day but got 6 of 9 with time left . To make things worse 2 of my 3 missed were from 62 yards ! But has really inspired me to practice this discipline thanks Shepard !!
Oh and guess who won the 300 yard cold bore 😎

Great shootin’! Glad you are stepping outside your norm! After some consideration I might make them into separate classes. I’d kinda rather entice someone to shoot in Reticle Class over Turret Class than to force them. Two classes costs more for prize monies, but I think it will be worth it.
Nothing to report from our first match because I cancelled it at 5:30 pm for nearly getting heat stroke. I have been working outdoors for nearly 30 years in the heat and never have been whipped by sustained temps until yesterday. I won’t get into details but thats the scariest position i think I've ever been in, hotter than hades and you can’t stomach any water.

The upside is we had two crossover shooters, new to airgunning but not to competition! A father daughter team came by and had heard about TFT through Alamo Airguns and jas since fell in love with Field Target. He shot at Camp Perry in college and she is a collegiate shooter as well. While the match and range time were cut short, I do think we will see them again! She also has an online store and will be making our prize awards for TFT.

So this is also a good time to explain the evening matches.
I dont expect many if any of y’all who drive more than an hour to drive hrs to even try to get here for an evening match. Morning matches sure, y’all be home in time for supper, but the evening matches are designed to get all these airgun shooters around here to come shoot. Many airguns are being sold to this area but not .177’s. So I never expected sizeable turnouts for evening matches at first, but with patience and persistence the ‘if you build it..’ mantra will ring true. And then we all benefit!

I kinda see your point about clicker vs holdover, but if you’ve done both there’s really no difference. At NRL-22 matches some lanes are better using holdover, some better if you click. Versatility is the key, but delegating one or the other for a match seems like trying to be AAFTA clone…. And that’s probably not your intention. IMHO, click, holdover, who gives a Sh1T.? :ROFLMAO:
Kinda like the old Duke Nuke’em video game - “your face, your ass, what’s the difference?”

Giving the distances negates a substantial portion of an aafta clone. And if people like shooting it with all affta rules so be it, not for me to decide. I just throw it on the wall and see what sticks. As a famous General said ‘…if everyones thinking the same, somebody’s not thinking’ So far im hearing more pro-hold feedback than not. Trlrman is a great example. And while clicking is more accurate, holds combined with providing distances removes a bit of equipment advantages.

Not trying to tell you what to do Shep, just giving my opinion. I’m surprised a shooter as good as Jim doesn’t already know how to do holdover….
What’s the target audience? What is your intention? Try to get shooters to understand and get proficient at holdover? That’s the only reason I can see….

As far as distance, no way you can do out to 100+ yards with parallax anyway, so either give the distance, or my preference, allow laser rangefinders.

Heard you weren’t feeling good yesterday, hope things are better?

Shep my apologies for derailing your thread !
No worries. Lively discussion is exactly the point! Thrilled you tried it!

Im getting better, little shaky still, thanks for asking! Not feeling good is an understatement. I was prob a degree or two from heat stroke and should have called an ambulance looking back on it. With vision/focus going in and out, vomiting and cramping- it was a really stupid idea to self treat completely and not seek attention. I did see a paramedic ( off-duty) later on in the evening however, who checked me out and then yelled at me for being stupid. Goes to show no matter how much you work/train in the heat you never know when your body will just say nope, Ive had enough.
