Taipan Thats unfortunate

Been lucky with leakers until now.

There's a dozen PCPs in the cabinet with no issues and just noticed that my 10 yo HW100 is sloooowly loosing pressure over a week. Not surprising as my main pesting gun, that rifle has seen a heck of a lot of use.

The leak is not enough to be a problem, more as a minor nuisance. I'll order an o-ring kit and schedule the reseal as a next winter project.

In the meantime, it's business as usual.

Cheers!

Air out Reg vent hole ... Inner spool x2 o-rings, and/or the other o-ring under the tapered bottom cap. ( So 3 critical there + a 4th under adjuster cap. )
So do I remove the whole top part? And the circlip on the bottom to get there?

With calipers MEASURE the over all lenght before turning / unscrewing the cap/screen end !!
Take out set screw and unscrew it. Under it you will find an o-ring sealing the seat from air bypassing it.
* When reassembling shown section, screw back together to measured distance & fine turn rotation by making note where the threads have been damaged by the set screw by looking threw the threaded hole of said set screw.

Good deal thanks!

@ Dairyboy - Dillon I sent you a P.M.; I am fairly certain you have to login to post. Have you received it?

I have resealed over a dozen Taipan Veterans & that is precisely why I P.M.’d you. A number of years ago, a well known member (now a vender) from another forum posted oring sizes for the Taipan Veteran. Yippee, as to my knowledge there was/has never been anything posted regarding this topic from the original manufacturer - at that time they were made in the Ukraine. Ah huh you guessed it - I placed an order from the same establishment as yourself. Back then they charged a flat rate shipping of $3.75. The airtube oring size called out was 21mm x 3mm! Wrong! Wait, hold on & let me finish. Taipan Veterans manufactured in the Ukraine have an airtube oring size of 23mm x 3mm; while the Taipan Veterans made in the Czech Republic take 21mm x 3mm & those guns did come with a manual that lists the oring sizes.

I write this for all who, at one time or another, have been misinformed & that definitely includes me.

To this other well known member (now vender) from another forum; I have to believe this misinformation was given unintentionally as at that time the Taipan Veteran’s 1st shipment had not yet hit U.S. shores. Perhaps he felt nothing would change? I dunno; but I do know I have quite the stock pile of 21mm x 3mm orings. On an upbeat note, I already had a generous supply to reseal the newer Taipan Veterans made in the Czech Republic. So there you have it!

Looking for the 177 mutants,,,,
I have never seen in 12 years a 177 mutant for sale, not a picture, not even a post in AGN since the beginning of this website, i have heard about it in the old GTA fourum .. so it must be a really wanted gun. And a non sale item for the guy who has one in his collection..

Oh ill need to look if I missed a PM. Oh that is very interesting information and really appreciate it! I will need to see what my Vet is. I believe it is a CZ made one. I guess I'll need to wait and see whenever I need to reseal it if it has the 23x3mm or not.

I remember @Franklink posted about them before and ordered off his post. Upon looking it does say 21x3.....well I realized I messed up and ordered Poly 90 orings instead of 70 when I bought the stash so I can't get the reg back together anyways. I ordered some 23x3 and all the reg orings in the correct hardness and material.

Original "MUTANTS" in .177 were rare, but VETERANS which are Very very very similar can be found in .177 ;)
Personally have one of each ... Mutant in .22 & Vet in .177

I apologize if my thread created any confusion.
I've only needed to replace tube orings in my UK Vet, CZs are still going strong.

I believe the photo of the manual in that link above is from a CZ Veterano.
No your post was very helpful. I think the Manufacturer not being clear on the oring sizes is confusing. Granted they do include some when buying so I guess a quick measurement wouldn't hurt.

So I see you mentioned you checked your orings for fitment and they were good. So your Ukraine Vet did use the 21x3mm ones?

I think there were four maybe five 177 mutants made, This goes way back to the TAG form and the big question was do you have a CZ barrel or a for got the name started with a L , Like liszine or something, There was no way to tell no marks or nothing , The Veteran had the barrel mark not the Mutants . the 1st Mutants with the short barrel, The mutant II came out with a couple MM longer barrel, I bought a CZ barrel or so I thought can't tell the difference,,, My 1st Mutant came from a guy Named Brian, I think he sells Eguns now..

I remember replacing the tube orings in the Ukraine Vet but it's been too long for me to remember whether they were the 21x3 or the 23x3. That Ukraine Vet was from R&L, around 2018 or maybe 2017 I think. I replaced all the orings in it a few years ago, but again, that couple years has fogged the memory of exact sizes. The two that were manufactured in Czech have needed less, and probably didn't "need" any. Rebuilt the reg in the Long, couple probe orings, and Ive ruined a couple of orings under the manometer by degassing there versus using the hammer spring tension. I prefer cracking the manometer open cuz then I don't lose my hammer spring tension setting for desired power. But sometimes the escaping air ruins the gauge oring.

I think that chart in the link for the Vet oring assistance was originally from the Mutant via info Orion shared. Sounds like the earliest Vets and the Mutants shared an oring size for the tubes? And the CZ Vets have a different Oring size for the airtubes. I've had some interactions with @RadioFlyer and he's as trustable as they come. He says this is the case, I believe him.
