Because I was born there. I've been in manatoba Canada for over 45 years. Actually California dadah is my YouTube calling card. Yup. I've been through the Canadian court system a few times. I'm not proud in saying that I've put police prosecutors and various law enforcement officials in their place. Believe me when I say they definitely do like being made aware of their own ignorance in understanding and applying airgun regulations laws aswell as the firearms act. Just a hint. Define what a weapon is. Is a weapon a knife a gun a pellet pistol a paintball marker. The answer is extremely simple but so hard to grasp. A weapon does not exist unless the item is used in a selfdefense or violent manner towards a living person or other Animal species. All these things are called tools. It's only a weapon after it's used as a weapon. Is a spoon a weapon or utensil. The answer is it's a utensil until somebody rams it down you throat. Any pellet gun pistol or rifle or a cannon ball gun is perfectly legal legit no paperwork no pal no nothing just obey our laws and follow regulations. Keep it under 500 fps the energy is practically unlimited. Over 500 fps this is the amazing part energy is capped at 5.7 j. PERMIT pal required. If your airgun is 500 to 5000 fps yes I said 5000 fps as long as the energy is less than 5.7 j NO PAL REQUIRED. And yes by law and regulations we are definitely allowed to modify build create increase power speed energy. For example. An HDR 68 MARKER weapon firearm or regulated. You are absolutely most definitely allowed it modify this marker . Warning it's extremely expensive to do far more expensive than just buying a rifle or pistol firearm. Legally allowed to modify the HDR 68 up to 499 feet per second. Shooting any projectile. I recommend .68 or 17.3 mm solid chrome ballbearings weighing approximately 300 grains. Awesome marker for backpacking expeditions. Let me say this come across a zombie a bear whatever. Shoot it with this for protection. You'll be the one going home that day. Now increase the inner diameter of your marker's barrel. Increase the projectile weight let's say 1000 to 2000 grains. Remember keep you fps under 500. But if you get caught using a lighter projectile in a marker capable of 499 fps with a projectile weight of extreme mass your in a bit of hot H2O. Always dial in you airmarker or airgun to only produce 500 fps with whatever projectile weight you want. A bit of real life advice. Never change remove projectile. Always leave marker or airgun loaded with that combination. Ie. 500 or less fps fpe is unlimited. Due the simple calculation your pistol or rifle air gun using 200 to 2000 grains. Why would you want a firearm and the hassle that comes with it. That's the big reason for airgun laws rules are hard to understand. Our airguns can literally be far and I mean far more devastating than a firearm by far. Any questions find me.
Run on sentences and improper grammar/punctuation hurts the uncaffinated brain.

The delivery is a bit heavy but he is right - our Canadian gun laws don't make sense. A couple of comments to support that...

Airguns are classed as firearms and all regulations/restrictions apply whether (from a safety perspective) they make sense or not.

For the most part, the authorities (police and game wardens) have little experience or understanding of airguns and consider a Red Rider BB-gun to be a centerfire rifle.

Replica handguns are specifically regulated because they look real and could be used in robberies.

Airguns may be banned for sale in Canada because they "look dangerous".

Airguns with built in moderators (baffles) are illegal because firearm silencers are.

Many compact airguns and bulpups are banned because they could be concealed.

As mentioned above, no permit required for sub 500fps air rifles and pistols, at 501 fps air rifles require a permit (a Possession and Acquisition License - PAL) and a pellet pistol becomes a "restricted weapon" (same as a .44 Magnum firearm) requiring a RPAL with all the restrictions and limitations applying to transportation and usage.

There are many more examples but this gives the drift of the regulations.

As a side bar, blowguns are PROHIBITED weapons - not allowed - verboten! Think that it is because some bureaucrat saw a Ninja movie that showed a blowgun dart instantly killing a man at 200 paces. ...So technically, a kid with a peashooter is breaking the law and could be thrown in jail.

Sorry, my little rant and pet peeve...
In 1892, provisions were introduced into the new Criminal Code requiring handgun owners to obtain a “certificate of exemption” from a justice of the peace if they wanted to carry a handgun. Since then, the laws and regulations pertaining to (legal) handgun ownership and usage have become so restrictive that owning a .22 pistol and doing some casual plinking is an impossible dream. Seems they can't control the illegal criminal use of handguns so they take it out on the law abiding citizens.

You guys are are lucky to have the right to bear arms!

Cheers!

Ps. Shooting a hpa marker with a 495 fps and projectile weight of 1000 grains will produce 732 joules. And yes fully legal in Canada. Absolutely NO PAL REQUIRED. Believe me. Don't fret my Canadians brothers and sisters. You definitely can make create or modify legally your airguns into NON PAL destructive zombie stoppers. Yes one round should do. Remember any questions ask me. Please do rely or expect accurate information regarding airgun regulations in Canada. Rely on someone who's been through the courts and had to educate law enforcement lawyers and judges. JUST ABSOLUTELY STUNNING HOW INFORMED OUR LEGAL SYSTEM IS. ACTUALLY ITS DISGUSTING. Sincerely David.
