I went to the shooting range and started talking to the guy next to me on the bench. We talked a long time and of course I started talking about my air rifles. He told me he was also into air rifles and he attained a shooting match once a month in town. I had no clue other PCP shooters got together for matches. He said they get together once a month for 10 meter matches and invited me to come the next time they had one. He asked if I wanted to come to his place for a friendly competition. I brought three of my guns (the verminator, the brocock, and the wildcat .177, .22, and .25 respectively)
When I got to his house, he showed me around his BP's and his reloading set up. When he brought out the Anschutz, I was blown away at the quality. The weight was about 8 pounds and the trigger was super crisp with a 4 oz pull. Just touching the trigger would fire the gun. The peep sight was really cool to look through but I would still prefer a scope though. We started getting ready for a shooting match in his back yard and this old man could shoot. Standing position he was hitting 9 and 10 while I would only get a 9 every 5th shot. In short, this old man kicked my butt.
I bought out my verminator for him to try and he was still able to hit 9s and 10s. He really liked brocock but didn't much cared for the wildcat. Years ago I attended a gun club and I asked the 10 meter guys there if they heard of FX, Daystate, or Cricket and they never heard of them. This old man told me he also has never heard of these guns before. He has never heard of JSB pellets and only uses RWS wadcutters. Is this common for the 10 meter guys to not know about the big PCP manufactures? Is it possible that the big manufacturers we know are small potatoes?
